View Full Version : Vintage Air gen IV problem...
Hey everybody, I'm having a problem with my Vintage Air system and looking for ideas?
My Vintage Air system was working when I got my car back for about a week, then all of a sudden the system shuts off. The funny thing is:
With the key on, but engine NOT running, it works fine.
When I start the car and try to turn the system on...nothing.
If I turn the AC on, then start the engine, it will stay on for about 5-10 seconds and shut down.
Any ideas??? I'd appreciate it!

Have you tried resetting/reprogramming the system?
No. We got the idea that the ignition switch that that is feeding the relay to turn the system on might be bad. Well after several hours of disassembly...the ignition switch is not the problem. The shop that installed the system is calling Vintage Air in the morning. I will look at trying to reset it tomorrow...

Double check your grounds too. My system acted up a while back, but once I rewired the ground everything worked fine.

I think something else is on that circuit and is overloading it when the car is running.
I'll check the grounds...And that's what I thought Frank. There were 4 relays tapped into and turning on with the ignition switch. Even after I ran a separate wire for the AC and it still does the same thing...I'll keep looking, and appreciate the replys!!!

This is typical of bad ignition or alternator electrical noise. Since you're running an LS engine, I'd be looking at the charging system rather than the ignition system. The Gen 4 will shut down if the voltage at the ECU is over 16v or under 10v. The grounds should be run directly to the battery negative terminal (both white wires) to avoid excessive noise. Connect a multimeter to the circuit breaker and watch the voltage when the system shuts down. If you see no change, it could still be there but at a high frequency that the multimeter doesn't pick up.
Your best bet is to call Vintage Air and have them work through it with you. You can also PM me if you're unable to call during business hours.

Been busy doing 24hr shifts at the Fire Station. My next chance to "play" with my Nova is Friday. I'll check the voltage and I know the grounds are run to a block in the engine bay and not directly to the Neg terminal on the battery...I'll try to check those things on Friday...Thanks for the reply Ryan...
