Please forgive me if this has been discussed before. I'm a new member who is completing the c5/ls1 brake conversion on my 2nd gen and am trying to find the right master cylinder. I have heard that the c3 MS works well w/ hydroboost, but I will not be running hydraulic assist. Is this still the best choice? If not, any other suggestions?

The C5/LS1 setup requires a higher line pressure which is why the recommended master bore sizes are what they are. In someone elses words, "anything larger would be like trying to push a brick wall".
I am setting up a C5/C4 Hybrid in front / LS1 in back for my 69 Camaro. I got a manual 7/8" master with the Touring-Classics Hybrid Kit. They recommended an early Vette manual 1" master for a power brakes application. (68-74 Vette if I remember correct) I found the Vette Master at both Rock Auto and Kragen websites.

84-88 disc/drum booster, master and combo valve works good...also pretty cheap and the wreckers. Don't forget to grab the fittings so you can flare them into your exsisting lines.

I gave up on making a manual C4 setup work and went hydroboost. Does the C5 caliper work better in a manual setup?

sorry guys, I should add that I am using power brakes, but it is standard vacuum assist rather than hydroboost. With this setup, what would be the ideal MS???? thanks

I haven't tried non power on a Corvette swap.

MrQuick,
Ok, you have mentioned twice in this thread about the 84-88 power booster and master cylinder. I was curious if you could elaborate as to which cars these can be pulled from. This is the last thing I need to take care of for my C5 swap. So, before I head to the boneyard, I just wanted to clarify which parts I should be looking for.
One more question, Wilwood's master cylinders, the universal ones. Anyone used one of these to any success with this swap???

Try to find a 84-88 disc/drum set up.
You gonna have to do some work, the booster mounting studs on a 3rd gen is swedged on to the booster it self, the booster studs on an older car is on the brake pedal brace under the dash. You can either drill holes in the firewall or knock out the studs and modify the booster bracket to use the earlier stud set up.
If you go to the wreckers grab everything, booster brake rod, lines and prop valve.
I haven't found if a 3rd gen master would fit on the early booster? That would make life easy.
I used an S10 master in the past and I didn't like the pedal feel.
I hope to try a hydo boost set up soon.

As I mentioned above, an early manual corvette 1" for a power brakes application...
You get no hassels bolting up to existing hard lines and existing booster, and it looks OEM if that matters to ya.

I just bought a master from local auto parts(Yet to pick it up since last one was wrong) from a 68-70's caddilac 4 wheel disc car. I will post the part # in a day or so. Anyway 1inch bore, comes in either shallow or deep push rod hole. A new one had a deep hole and I wanted a rebuilt which came with a shallow, hence no part # as yet. About $20-30, it is cheaper than the corvette and looks Indentical might even be the same. I am running PBRs 98-02 Fbody which I believe are same as c5. I will let you know. No guarantees but it should work based on bore size. SS
vince, have you actually driven a car with the recommened combo, or is that something that someone told you to use and you still haven't had it on the road yet? I think joe rocket might be giving good info based on what touring classics said. "early Vette manual 1" master for a power brakes application. (68-74 Vette if I remember correct)" Of course i would do some more research on this, but i would be looking into this master, I am using a 2000 LS1 master, but they are rather expensive

from someone who can't even keep a battery up, yes I have, they work fine...I also drove a car with the S10 setup and didn't like the pedal feel, but thats just me.
Sure my paticular set up isn't on the road yet but i must say I have stopped at the the car with them and they feel fine. Can we say the same? HA...HA I'd call you a smart a$$ but then I'd be lieing. LOL
There are alot of combos out there so pick one that you are comfortable with. I like the look of the LS1 deal but never tried it...I should have taken Ricks for a spin.
