Stupid question - what are the covers over DSE's wheels/tires for? Protection from the heat?

The tire warmers are standard fare for an SCCA autocross, you keep them on the car and run the engine and use the heat from the car to warm up the tires. Its as common as tire shaving and tire doping.

Optima said on facebook they hope to have the results up soon. I know that Danny Popp won, Mark Stielow was runner up and tied in points, Brian Hobaugh came in third, and Mary Pozzi came in 5th place.

Its funny you mention tire doping... I did tech this year and we were required to check the tires for the tread wear rating, but I think a durometer reading would be a good idea. The Cool 66 Red mustang had no side windows, and the tech sheet clearly said that the cars MUST have working windows that go up and down. We were instructed to let it pass tech.

It was interesting that another car came to SEMA with 180 treadwear tires too. Good he changed them out before Saturday as that would have been horrible to be tossed for not being in compliance (gotta read the rules ...).

Heard that treadwear ratings will be dropped in a couple of years ...

The current published rules did not mention side windows as they had in the past. I'm assuming that the decision was made that it would be unfair to enforce that in tech when it was no longer included in the rules - just my assumption. Besides (a) side windows are not going to decide the race and (b) if you completed the cruise in mid 30 degree temps you're street car enough for me - windows/no windows or heater/no heater...
