Hello, ive been looking into mini-tubbing and widening the rear tires on my car to either 315's or 335's. I currently have a set of 17x9 steel cragar D-windows. Im wondering if anyone has a company theyd recommend for widening. Ive looked at Weldcrafts website, but they seem to specialize in high-dollar aluminum wheels..is there a company that can cut out my center section and weld it to a new drum that big? Seeing that i need steel wheels widened i would think they could be donw cheaper than aluminum could. I also saw in a Car Craft magazine that they had done this to their crown vic's steel wheels, but the company that did that is on the left coast, and im not.

Thanks!

With that company being on the west coast you should look into Greyhounds shipping rates. Never used them but I hear it is very economical.

335's will fit in your Duster with a mini-tub. Going to be a heavy(ier) wheel I bet

Id never looked into the greyhound option Johnny, but i too have heard that its a fairly good deal...im hoping to find someone on the east coast if possible though

And RobS, im sure it will be quite a bit heavier, but its not like the wheels are light by any means rite now, and i cant justify spending the money on lighter aluminum wheels any time soon. Im just looking for the added traction that the width provides

Weldcraft's website says they widen steel wheels.. I would give James a call. I was going to have some 20s widened through him but ended up selling them instead.

Weld Craft does great work, I've seen some wheels they have widened in their shop for Livernois Motorsports. They also do excellent repairs.

I'm having my 17x9 Cragar soft 8's stretched in a few weeks by a local guy... have you searched locally? Try to get in touch with circle track or Dirt track guys, they usually know someone that can repair/stretch wheels..especially steelies.

Weldcraft does outstanding work, and shipping Greyhound is a great idea (had a few items shipped that way, seats/Laguna nose/tires).. the only thing is you have to have someone pick up the "package" from a near by bus station... there is no doorstep delivery.

Thanks guys, and sr73bu-thats a good point with the greyhound...Im not close enough to needing the wheels to have looked locally yet, but i have been meaning to- and definatly will before making a final decision. If i dont find anyone locally, it seems as though everything ive seen and heard about Weldcraft makes them the go-to place for widening though...

As the time gets closer, PM me if you want to use Weld Craft. I'd be glad to help you out with the Greyhound deal. Weld Craft is about 25min from my house. I'd be glad to help you out if I can.

No problem at all. Been a GM guy all my life, but for some reason I have a soft spot for the PT Mopars :dunno: Nice project BTW
