View Full Version : Need a how-to on building some wood car stands that go under the wheels.

The ones you see in many build photos, looks like a Lincoln log house under each tire and gets the car up about 12-18" off the ground. Looks much easier and safer than stands.

What materials should I use? Strength is key obviously, but I still need to move them. How big should the area under the tires be? Need them big enough for say a 315mm tire on an 18x? wheel in the back. Is it just 2x4 stock with 3" wood screws or lags? What about a platform or does the tire nestle down inside?

I can see many uses for these with my other cars as well.

I used 2x6 and screws... Best thing I ever did was make those! I love them.

Okay, what about frame stands? I need to pull the rear axle and would like something similar.

I use them for my scales and setting up suspensions. We made them from 2x4's and a nail gun didn't take long and was pretty cheap. Someone told me they were called cribing?
