I received notice from HRIA on 8/13 that Lydia had made it through the final selection Committee voting to be one of the 6 HRIA Reception cars. All total, HRIA selects 9 plus one alternate vehicle as Booth or Reception cars for SEMA.
Three of the cars will be in HRIA booth, while the 6 Reception cars plus the alternate (in case one of the 6 Reception Cars want crank) will be on display outside North Hall at lobby/Entrance in front of the North SEMA Hall (Paradise Road and Convention Center Drive near the taxis pick up and drop off) from Tuesday through Friday, except for Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 PM until closing when they will be moved over to the Las Vegas Hilton for display at SEMA Reception, Dinner, various Awards Ceremonies, as well as the Hot Rod Hall of Fame inductee ceremony that evening. Lydia is one of the Reception cars, so she will be outside.
Wasn't sure we were going to be able to complete her in time to make the show. We finished up Saturday afternoon and took some pictures prior to loading her up in car hauler so we could mover her to Transporter pickup location Sunday morning for the trip west.
In case like me, you are not aware of HRIA, Hot Rod Industry Alliance (formerly SRMA, the Street Rod Marketing Alliance) it is a section of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
HRIA's primary objectives are to ensure the future prosperity of the hot rod industry and to advance and promote awareness of the hobby. Within this context, HRIA focuses on industry-specific issues, developing effective strategies and programs that will assist members in improving their business practices and procedures. HRIA also works with HRIA's legislative staff to address those legislative and/or regulatory matters which may affect the hot rod industry, and provides a forum- through participation in Hot Rod Alley, a special SEMA Show section-through which member companies can take advantage of new business and marketing opportunities.
I didn't even know anything about them are that they were a part of SEMA until my builder call me back in June and ask me if I would drive up and meet with one of their vehicle selection committee member who had seen my car when dropping off some parts at shop and wanted me to submit an application to HRIA selection committee to be one of their Reception cars. Just right place at the right time combined with a good dose of plain old dumb luck of being a GM car as their 100 year anniversary starts in November. Most of their cars are high-end custom and Street rods that Selection Committee see at Goodyguy and NSRA shows.
Hope any Forum members attending SEMA will stop by and look her over. I'm interested in what people don't like about car, so feel free to post or tell me your thought on car. I'll also be at the PT dinner where I hope to meet about 245 of you.
