Im wondering how to get started, where to look for events and also how to practice? Any advice would be great I am a ways away from actual track days but I like to plan ahead.

Check for a local SCCA club on the web. Buy yourself a decent helmet and a half a tank of gas. Make sure your seatbelts, brakes and tires are up to the task and go out and have a good time.

Ha! MI is michigan MO is missouri.....

As stated check with the local SCCA first and there are usually other clubs around that also hold autocross events.

The bad news is you are going to have to drive a ways to get there. I am spoiled here between Chicago and Milwaukee....I could go every weekend almost.
