I am trying to gather information on which part I should use on my Firebird -68. Until yesterday I was pretty sure that I should buy the AFX spindel but as I understand there could be problem with interference between the tie rod end and the rim.
So my question is:
Which set-up allows my to run most back space on a 17" wheel?
(VWW V40 17x8 BS 4,75" or 17x9 BS 5,5")
AFX spindel with standard or Z28 steering arm
or
Standard spindel with Proforge tall upper control arm joint + Proforge tall tie rod end.

Is there any other way to reduce the bump steer as well as improve the handling without rim interference?
Stock spindle with Proforge tall upper joint - L&H billet Z28 steering arm, would that be better ?

Your best option on a stock subframe is to run our TruTurn system as it completely eliminates the tie rod hitting the rim issue.
If you use our entire package with control arms, coil overs, and tall spindles the bumpsteer is reduced to almost nothing, you have increased camber gain for better performance, and the adjust ability and ride quality of the monotube coil overs.

Using the AFX spindle with a short steering arm, you can fit 17 inch wheels with a max back space of 5" I have confirmed this today.
now I have a bunch of steering arms and the casrting #'s i used are the 6" long arms # 3902518 compared to Pozzi racing info, the Z28 arms show as being .5 to .8" shorter. i have 2 that are the same length but the height is different, no idea if the second one is aftermarket the casting # makes no sence 3964876
The truturn is an option but that is not an AFX spindle.
the L&H arms may work if they are available. i think they have been dropped as well which will compound the problem because the steering arm location on the AFX spindle had been lowered incomparison to the lower ball joint as well as the 7/8" drop to the wheel centerline.
hope that lets you makeup your mind

Blake,
do I understand you right, the confirmation you did to day about 5" BS was with the short (Z28, 5.3") steering arm?
I have the steering arm that are almost 6" long (according to Pozzi´s measuring method), will this clear 4.75" BS.
If it will not clear, I need buy the short steering arm. Therefore I need to know were to find it before I buy the AFX spindel.

L&H has a steering arm that may work. Click the link and scroll all the way to the bottom ("Pro Billet F, X Body "Z/28 Short" Steering Arms for ATS/AFX Spindles"):
