I am going to look at a 6.0 LS engine out of a Silverado work truck. It has 215000 miles, does not burn or leak oil, with no strange noises (what I am told). It was in a truck up until last week. No wiring harness. Asking price is $650 o.b.o. - is this a good deal? What would be a good offer and what should I watch for? I would plan on a full rebuild due to how many miles plus I would like to make upgrades for performance. This would eventually go into my 79 Camaro.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
George

It is out a 2001 truck.

With that many miles, you will be looking at a rebuild. You can buy an LQ4 truck motor (same 6.0L) with everything including accessories, harness and ECM for around $1,200-1,400 with low 100's for mileage, possibly less (for comparison).

I wouldn't pay more than $500.00

If it's an aluminum block, G2G for a rebuild, if it's iron, I might pay half that.

Thank you for the responses. I thought the price was high but wanted to be sure. With half the miles and the wiring harness it would be a deal. I thought $350 was where I wanted to be on it, so I was close.
Maybe I'll just stick with my old school 400 sbc and build it with a 434 stroker kit.

As everyone has already stated, that deal isn't great. If you do look for another, it's best to find one with everything. Mixing and matching harnesses, ECMs and sensors can be done, but it's easiest when it's all from the same truck so you know for sure it all goes together. This is especially true for the 03-04 and newer drive by wire models.
Before you go down the traditional SBC road, remember that there is a reason many have migrated to LS based engines. I wouldn't give up on it yet.

I offered $350 without seeing it and he accepted. I have yet to see it but it sure seems like it would be worth that much.
