It has been a while since I last posted, I just wanted to share an engine change for the race car. I have been working on this for the better part of the year. I finally got it finished and strapped in on the chassis dyno at work to break the motor in and make some pulls. The motor is an LS3 Block stroked to 416 cu inch, 3 stage dry sump, Carb. motor with a custom comp roller cam and a SLP / Manley forged rotating assembly. Here is the video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lcN_YiZbIs Thanks for looking

I Always loved this car! the new motor looks right at home in there! Keep up the great work! If you run at NJMP, you'll have to make it out to RTTS (run to the shore) next year... check out the Racing Events section on here for photos from last years event...

So much for class rules not allowing a dry sump system..... I am very surprised that you switched to a chevy engine. What class does that put you in now?

Good question, since it is a purpose built track day car there are no rules, sometime I wish there was because you would be amazed on what some people race at the track.LOL As for the change from the Pontiac motor to the Chevrolet LS3 that decision took me about 6 months to make. I have had this car for 27 years and it has had a Pontiac motor in it for all of those years. I have been road racing the car since 1991, I have had some good times and some bad times. The last couple years the bad times became more frequent and I had to learn from the problems and work forward. There were a bunch of factors that I went over time after time and when it came down to the final descision I wanted to give it a try. Which is what Hot rodding / racing all boils down to is "experimentation" and like Monteboy84 pointed out the LS3 motor is available in a 2009 G8 GXP so I am at least kinda keeping it in the family.

I am not saying the LS3 isnt better, just that you have always been a pure pontiac heavy hitter. I knew you were having oiling issues but didnt want to go dry sump because of some sanctioning rules? I just wondered if this threw you into a more modified class where you would be against more unlimited combinations.
BTW, they stopped making Pontiac motors is 1981.

Those headers are wild! Do those secondary tubes come together under the car? If so what does that extra long tri-y design do for the power band?

To be honest with you I am not saying the LS3 is better either, every motor has a purpose and I am a huge Pontiac fan. I spent a great deal of time and money trying to make it work in a road race car. Unfortunately the last pontiac block that was built was half filled with block hardner that caused the oil temperatures to get really hot. I would go out and after three laps I had 260 degree oil temps and climbing. So after doing some research and some advise of engine builders including one that builds Pontiac motors I started looking at the ls3 motor. To spend $300.00 to go racing and I can only get 3 laps per session is not really a productive day. I went with the dry sump on the LS3 because in a high rpm applications you can't go wrong. I have a couple pictures of the headers. The 4 - 2- 1 headers really help horsepower mid range to top end and one of the reasons I also went with that design is for frame clearance which you will see. I spent a lot of time designing the headers and it took me about 40 hours to make them. And you are correct the last Pontiac motor was 1981 301 cu inch but personally I think it ended when they stop making the 400 in 1979.

As has already been mentioned your car has been a huge influence. The very first time I saw it, it was like every desire I had for an old american car had been realized in your car. I will say you were the first person who opened my eyes to the pro-touring scene and I still like your car the best. I hope when the day comes, that I can actually build my car (65 Plymouth Sport Fury), that it will be even half as nice as what you've built. Nice work.

Nice job! I love it! I think I'm going to go a similar direction with my Chevelle, but I intend to stick with a BBC (aluminum though).
That looks insane, now lets see the whole thing hah.
Motor looks amazing along with those headers/exhaust.
Nice work.

Your car is so cool, I love modified Pontiacs. I get so tired of seeing all orginal GTO's. I cant swear that mine will never have an LS in it, but right now I am still thrilled by big cube long stroke monster torque pontiac engines. I am more of a straight line performance guys though, and if I were building a bird or any kind of autocross or road racer, it would definitely have an LS in it. I think everything about them is better, especially after I saw what Steve Rupp did with Bad Penny. He has a 461 just like me but his makes 700+ hp! That is such a bad car!

Thank you, good idea keep it light as possible the aluminum block will probaly save you about 100 pounds plus it will run cooler.

Thank you, believe it or not before I purchased my 64 back in 1984 I was trying to buy a 67 gto it was white with a black hard top, the car was in great shape but it needed a refresh in the interior, the price was out of my range and I could not get enough money to buy it and then eventually I came across the 64 the rest is history :)

Well, that would have been something to see a 67 done up like your 64 is! I am a big fan of 64-70 GTOs and I especially love a good pro-touring version, and yours is all out. You were pro-touring when pro-touring wuddn't cool!

Thank you, The mirrors are from street scene, they fit a 94 gmc yukon. One day in the garage I was trying to figure out the mirror and I owned a 94 yukon at the time and I said the window frame had about the same angle to it let me see if they would bolt up I took one mirror off the truck and they were close to what I needed. I bought these from Summit racing and I like the mirror because they are fixed but you can adjust the glass inside the body so at speed they do not move around. I welded a piece of metal between the door and the window frame and they bolt up to that piece of metal.
