Im rebuilding a set of heads for a friend and one is cracked. Does anyone have or know of a place where I can get a replacement head? Its a 1970 Cadillac 472

I think you mean either 472 or 500.

I have a 500 motor I'm not sure if its a 1970 but I'm very sure its a 70, 71 or 72, if you cant find any PM me I am pretty sure the heads are all the same in those years, they changed pistons to change CR, I was going to put the heads on a complete running 75 500 motor since the early heads flow better but I got to many projects..anyway pm me...I'm sure you could find a donar motor on CR.

You really need to know which head you have? There is a combustion chamber cc difference between those heads. The wrong head and piston combination could easliy get you 12:1 compression, or drop the compression. Most later 500 heads had the heater hose fitting in the rear of the passeger side head. An older salvage yard could still have one around. I might have a set of heads here, I will check the next couple of days.

yeah , you have to match the heads to your pistons.I am very sure that there are three heads all pre 68-73 heads are the similar, 76 cc. In 74 they went to 120cc. the 425 heads from the late 70's will technicall fit on the other blocks but dont flow, and have small chambers that produce high compression. If you have pistons from a 75 and heads from 1970....yeah your gonna need 110 octane.
here is a page with some head ID casting numbers http://www.cad500parts.com/catalog/page2.htm

The guy is gonna have to do new pistons anyway so maybe I can make a different set of heads work. I barely know anything about Cadillac epically interchangeability of parts, so any info you guy give me is a start.

that link I sent you is part of a internet "book" which has all the info you really need, look at that and a company called MTS (maximum torque specialties) the cad 500 is nice engine and allot lighter than other big blocks, with an aluminum intake its 50lbs heavier than a SBC and has 400lbs of torque at like 1,500 rpm...I guess thats what happens at 500cubes. if you add a cam and some aftermarket aluminum heads or some porting, LOOK OUT!..the weak part of the stock heads is the rockers and springs they limit your revs to about 4500 and then you'll start to get float...do a conversion to chevy style rockers and rev it all you want.
but you can build one stock and run tall gears with all that torque and still have a killer combo.
if you have any questions you cant get from the websites let me know I have built a couple.

Caddy engines are pretty versatile too. If you're still looking for some heads there were a couple 75-76 eldos in pick a part. I could snag them.

Yeah, don't know if you're still looking but 472s and 500s are plentiful at Pull-A-Part yards here. The 472 and 500 stuff interchanges, but as previously mentioned the combustion chamber sizes vary pretty drastically. Keep in mind, the 500 was Eldorado-only from 1970-1975; in 1976, the whole line used 500s.
