I am looking for a T56 . I am interested in a good used unit or any recommendations on a new unit. What units are out their that people are having good luck with. Thanks Randy

a lot of them get listed for sale on www.ls1tech.com in the forums. I tried locally for a while with no luck, and ended up buying a rebuilt unit with a modified clutch kit.

You want the LS or LT version?

LS version. The one I hurt was a 02 Camaro and the one I am borrowing is a 04 GTO. Thanks Randy

Don't know where your at but there is a New Viper 6-Speed for sale on Craigs List in the SF Bay Area parts section for $2800. IThere is also a guy in my area selling a couple of LS one's. One is a GTO and the other is a Vette trans both with low miles around 15k to 30k.

I have t56s in both my 01 and 89 TAs, also had a core I bought to rebuild and put in my 67. My 01 has 170,000 miles and the trans was pretty wore out, so I ended up putting the one from my 89 into the 01. Rebuilt the core I had for my 67 and put it in the 89, and the original from the 01 will be rebuilt and put in my 67.

But anyway, I paid $500 for the core, $200 for shipping, $600 for a stage 2 rebuild kit from Tick Performance. So I have $1300 into that transmission. I see most "good" t56s going for $1200-$1500 but even my low mileage t56 that is now in the 01 doesn't shift as well as the one I just rebuilt. If you can rebuild one or get it done cheap it might be worth it to get a cheap core and rebuild it.

your better off rebuilding yours and putting better gears in it, unless you completely demolished it.

Regretfully mine is junk. I am looking at the Liberty unit. I think they had one for around $3000.
I think I am going to post some thing on LS1 Tec and see what people are using and happy with.

Thanks for the help and input. Randy

Randy... I think the biggest bang for the buck is a new T56 Magnum. I have personally seen the internals of a LS1, Viper and GTO T56 laying next to the internals of the T56 Magnum...Its amazing the difference. The magnum gears are a good 1/4" wider. The main shaft is one piece instead of 2 piece and some other improvements. I can get them new for 2750. as of today.
