View Full Version : Which LS???
I know this question has been discussed a lot but I can't decide which ls to buy.I have been thinking about the LS3 480hp from GMPP,a LS3 from a wrecked car or a motor from Prodigy. Its gonna be In a 69 camaro that will be on the street most of the time but with a little track time.I would get the GMPP motor but I'm afraid I would be unhappy with the cam and by changing that I would void my warranty, but is the warranty that big of a deal?I want something that will be easy to get running and I think all new stuff from GMPP would be. And maybe in the future I might want to add some boost to it. I'm just not sure which one is the right way for me to go. And help would be appreciated.

Why would you be unhappy with the cam? 480HP is a lot for mostly street use. If you're going to change the cam, get the standard LS3 or just have Frank set it up for you.

This x2. LSX376 may be a viable option if you are set on going to a boosted set-up.

x3.....plan the whole build before you begin. Be realistic with what you can afford and what you need.

If it were me and I was thinking about supercharging down the road, here is what I would do.
The GMPP motor is 10.7:1 compression which COULD be supercharged but in a perfect world lower compression would be a bit better. Also the GMPP motor comes with a 112LC cam which is tight LC's for a blower and really should be changed. Also the GMPP has Hypertectic pistons which have proven to be OK for mild boosted applications but if the motor is going to be rode hard and put up wet, I absolutely recommend forged pistons.
Were it me, I would have Prodigy set up the motor at 10:1 with forged pistons (no additional cost for lower compression pistons). And use a bit more blower specific cam with wider lobe separation. Interesting enough with the different cam, while peak horsepower would drop a tennie, torque would pick up, and also low speed drive ability and surging the GMPP warns about would be diminished. And the blower will LOVE it later. and while you were saving pennies for the blower our motor would still make more NA horsepower then the GMPP motor, probably 500ish and torque would be sick.
