I did not think the most difficult part of owning a PT car would be getting it insured.
So I've gone to a few different big name agencies and a few small ones. Everyone seems to have a problem with my two requires:
1) Must be able to actually drive the car (it's built to move, not sit)
2) I need to be able to afford it
Being only 21 at this time, I evidently lack the driving experience of someone who has been using an econobox for 10 years, even though I've been drag racing/motocrossing since I was 6.
Anyway, I have an appraisal sheet and a long comprehensive part list for the car, the appraisal sets the value of the car at $30000. The parts list is just to provide proof of the stuff I've bought for my car (who what where and when). Having all this info is not enough for the insurance company to "justify" my $30000 car.
My options were "show car" (only to and from shows, absolutely no other driving) or pretty much go pound sand.
I know there's a couple of other younger guys on here, what did you all do about this?

I recently dropped haggerty and switched to american collectors. Haggerty and grundy will insure you and are cheap, but you arent really allowed to drive your car. American collectors has packages, its limited mileage, but you can drive your car. You set an agreed value and I chose the 7500 miles a year plan.

I was under the impression all those companies required you to be at least 25, for an "extensive" driving record. I know one of them, Grundy or Hagerty, said they will not insure anyone under 25, I can't remember off the top of my head which one.

I did some searching the forum and saw a thread about him. Does he require a garage?

sorry, I missed the 21 part. You'll have a much tougher time with the big three until you are older.

Yeah, I know. Starting to think I put all my money into a great driveway ornament.
Anyone know the legalities of one of my parents insuring it with me listed as a driver, under Hagerty or the like?

at 28 I feel like I have run into the same problems with my 67 fairlane. I think it was haggerty that required me to be 30 and have a spotless record. since the car was kind of a rat rod anyway I ended up going liability only with allstate. and it actually is covered against theft fire and vandalism. who knows, maybe Ill get hosed if I ever wreck the thing but the rate was very reasonable. and I get to drive the car. your car sounds like it is worth quite a bit more. i fear that I'll be running into the same dilema as you when I finish my 70 mustang. but the way things have been going I'll be 50 when I get it done and it might be easier to find insurance. so I guess in my case my loophole has been turning my car into more project than I have time or money for.

all you have to do is email him or call his office. He is a guy who is into cars just like the rest of us. We actually raced our cars together at the Run To The Shore last April. After two years of going through exactlly what you are going through right now he had me covered in two weeks!!
