View Full Version : Strangest vehicles, that show off, race by you, or have something to prove

Yeah, so I tend to drive very civilized on the street. Sometimes I run through the gears, but I don't speed or stoplight race (too many idiots out there.)

When you drive the speed limit, it does give more opportunity for guys/gals in other vehicles, to pull up beside you, and show off, or whatever.

Then there are the idiots, who are maybe driving an unusual vehicle, that just act crazy, as if they were trying to prove as a driver, or a driver/car combo, that they belong in an Indy race, or at least that they are faster/better than your car.

Yes there are modern performance cars, but that is kind of expected, that these guys will show off with their BMW's etc.

Personally, what I have noticed, is the volkswagen touareg (ugly suv) owners, seem to think they have some bad ass race truck, that they need to prove, is some earth shattering performance vehicle.

A couple examples;
Idiot touareg 1, decided that I wasn't passing cars fast enough and decided to ride my ass. Finally I had enough (I don't have airbags if he rear ends me), and made some noise with the big block, finishing off the row of cars, on the freeway, and pulled into the slow lane. I guess now he's even more pi$$ed, thinking that I was trying to outperform his turdmobile, and cranks by me at what must have been 100mph, cutting me off, while his exhaust made a toilet flushing sound.

Idiot touareg 2, Saw me going down the road at night, and decided that it was a good idea, to follow 10 feet behind me, with his hids, in my mirror. I flipped the mirror, to night setting, and ignored him (there was room for him to pass at any time - no cars on the road.) So by the time I reach the bottom of this semi-steep hill, there is a traffic light, with pretty much a 90 degree turn on the next street. Again I was fed up, and know that I can do a pretty spirited (but legal) speed around that corner.
He couldn't/didn't, and was left quite a ways behind, while he picked up his jock strap or tightened his depends.
Same thing, a couple km down the road, here comes the touareg cranked, close to double the speed limit, weaving through a few cars, finally passing me. (I didn't even know it was another volkswagon, until he passed me- figures tho)

There are a few more examples. I don't know why these guys seem to be like this?
So maybe that goes with buying an over-priced volkswagon?

Any of you guys have similar experiences?

i hate when people get up real close to the car (while driving) to take pictures or just look at it, and the driver of the other car is looking too, always makes me nervous.

If you have a car that screams "look at me," that's what people are likely to do, up close even. If it looks fast, they will probably want to see you go fast. It's simple, yet annoying...

Back in my crotch rocket days, I'd have the occasional clown try to race me, which would usually end once I hit around 100. That said, I'd occasionally overdo things when people were staring at me and not paying attention to their own speed--I found myself getting pulled over at 115, which was largely just a result of tapping the throttle to move away from a gawker. The nice CA Highway Patrol guy was okay with my story, and let me go, ticket-free; it probably helped that I was driving a truck for a living at the time, and was licensed as such.

If you're a low-profile person, a high-profile vehicle is likely to stress you out at all the wrong times...

There was a guy that I raced with both at the drag strip and at local autocross that made the mighty Yugo his ride of choice. He apparently had worked at a dealership and when they were going out of business he did some wheeling and dealing for several cars and piles of spare parts.

The cars weren't terribly fast but he was the nicest guy and always seemed to be having so much fun.

I have a problem with people who participate in what I like to call passive-aggressive drag racing. These people aren't out to all out race, but for some reason must leave the light ahead of all of the other cars. They'll go just fast enough to accomplish this and is evidenced by how they react to you or other drivers. And no, they're not just speeding up to get rid of a car awkwardly pacing in their blind spot.

Some passive-aggressive drag racers won't do anything "extreme" and will be content to see that the other car had to really try hard to pass them. Others, instead can let it escalate to a random street race from a slow roll.

Drivers of all kinds of cars do this. Perhaps the worst offenders are the drivers of huge jacked up pickup trucks that are too tall to load and useless off-road (and useless on road.)

Despite commuting in a 5.0 Mustang, I actually drive pretty slowly most of the time. I like to leave the lights as soon as possible (by paying attention and anticipating when they'll go green) but fairly slowly. This usually catches some person sleeping at the wheel of their shiny new blah-mobile off guard. Sometimes this will expose someone for a passive-aggressive drag racer, though part of the motivation here could be that they left the light late and didn't want to hold up traffic.

For me it are usually the white trash types in the 1995 4 door Tarus that is clapped out. They stare at you while they floor it away from the stoplight or wherever. Douchebags!!

I had some guy in a Supra try to race my 72 Chevelle from a toll booth outside Chicago. I guess it didn't matter to him that the Chevelle was on a trailer being towed. Not sure what he was trying to prove other than he was an idiot.

The only recent events for me have been the gold chained 50 year old in a Porsche. He wanted to race down the 91 fwy in midday traffic at extreme speed, well the 91 was not the place to play. Why do the idiots think that a crowded freeway is the place to show off by weaving between the regular stupid drivers that will do stupid without us scaring the hell out of them.

I really can't stand people who drive like ass in traffic.. a bare 4 lane highway is one thing, but do not appreciate jerky behavior on a crowded street...

I live in Chicago and unfortunately there is no shortage of idiots (excluding me of course LOL) here that do that sort of stuff.

Brett, you hit the nail on the head. The passive-aggressive mentality is everywhere while driving.

The think I find amusing is the guy that comes up next to my Traffic Violation Red Camaro and expects me to just stomp on the gas and race. I don't need to play that game. Want to prove you and your cars worth? Come out to the track and lets see what both can really do.

Had a G35 blow by my fairlane on the freeway once. he then slowed down and turned on his flashers. I'm guessing that means he won since he sped off as soon as I caught up again. Had it been a race that I would have known about, I'm sure I would have been beat, but I wasn't about to prove that. so, I just acted like i wasn't interested.

Back in my crotch rocket days, I'd have the occasional clown try to race me, which would usually end once I hit around 100. I've had plenty of the same. I always like to pull just ahead, take a peek back and wave to keep up. They usually get the hint that its not gonna happen. Not needing to grab 2nd until 110 helps.

This was a looong time ago. I'm with a friend in my new LT1 Z. We're sitting at a light in the left lane. The right lane ends about 1/10 mile up the road. I have some rice sedan next to me with what looked like a highschooler (or maybe a fairly new college student), on a date. At the time his presence was not really noteable.

I leave at about 1/2 throttle, just to feel the torque. Shortly after we take off, my friend casually notes, "I think this guy is trying to race you." When he says this, I glance over to see the Honda Accord violently rock as he manually upshifts. I'm thinking "is he serious?" Well he's about half a car behind and running out of lane. So I do him the favor of matting the throttle... sling-shooting away from him like he's driving backwards, and simultaneously destroying any chance of him impressing his date.

Still can't figure out where his head was. Granted there weren't a ton of LT1s running around yet at the time, and they were quite a bit faster than the previous generation, but really... mommy's Honda Accord?

Back in the day I used to put the lights back on my race kitted GSXR 750 and ride on the street.....one warm summer evening my buddy and I with his pretty stock GSXR 1100 were out booting around.....come up to this light and theres this clean cut preppie guy and his preppie chick sitting there in his then pretty new V6 Fiero......when we pull up hes got his window down....Im no more than three feet away from him and I hear him start saying to his GF......."I could easily take both these guys.....EASILY!....." I was shocked...a V6 Fiero????......I couldnt believe it....so I say "Lets go...." the guy says "AWWWWWW BUDDY!!!!" and looks to his GF and laughingly says "HE WANTS TO RACE!!....HAHAHAHA!" laughs his head off......well, on the green I gave him the intersection then he got the full Superbike 9000 rpm start and the results were exactly what you would expect.....but honestly, a V6 Fiero????......what effing planet are you from anyway????.....unreal.

Funny you bring this up. Around here I am constantly being raced by pickups pulling trailers with small construction equipment. My daily is an 07' Mustang GT and I usually drive very conservatively to and from work (25+mpg). Today I had first a 1 ton Chevrolet pulling a rideable ditchwitch. Drove like a bat out of hell on all the downhills and plugged the left lane on all the uphill sections. I eventually had to be an ass just to get away from him. Then, not 2 miles later guy in an 08+ F550 Flatbed pulling a Bobcat. Same exact driving style. Retards. I pull trailers myself regularly (horses, tractors, hay etc.) and cannot accept the stupidity. Also I am pretty certain every Toyota has a built in "cut off the guy in the left lane when he is 1 car length behind you" feature. Happens all the time ( 5 times a day, every day) often when there isn't even a car in front of them in the right lane. Don't even get me started about being on the RC. Ever seen what happens when you rearend a bike? Complete idiots out there everywhere. Unreal (thanks for listening I really needed to vent and didn't know it till I saw this thread). Who do I give my $$$ to for the therapy?

I have a nice drive to work on a very twisty back road. Now I'll admit I will drive 5 to 10 over the posted, but It always seems I get some jerk that will blow-by me on the straights but can't drive the speed limit through the curves. They usually go 5 under the speed limit or cut through the bicycle lane. We have quite a few bike rallies and I always pray no one is training when the idiots drift down into that lane.

Ahh yes the racer-boys, I typically drive conservative, it saves wear & tear, and there are too many idiots.
Some time long ago, I noticed a compact with a huge chrome wing passing and weaving in traffic on a small side street, revving the engine and all, as if looking to get somebody to race him (must have been that new muffler), he was driving way too hard for the conditions, and we all kept reaching the next light together again.

After he nearly caused a few fender benders, and spooking an older lady driving (properly too, poor gal), I ended up next to him at a stoplight, he was in the dedicated turn lane behind a truck, me on his driver side, it was summer, windows were down, so he starts hollering, and I give him a rev or two, so he's hooked, so I power-brake as I roll the windows up, and light up the rear tires, just feet away from his open window, in 2 seconds there was a HUGE cloud of mosquito-choking tire-smoke filling up their cabin.

The guy in the truck decided to take his time before he drove off, leaving the 2 idiots to choke on it.
Zen!
I avoid this type of behavior nowadays, but that time the conditions were ripe, and perfect for some retribution.

Here's the genius scenario to wonder about: How is it that I've been going the same legal speed limit through many (green) traffic lights, yet you've passed me three or four times? Sometimes, the sheer cheapness of not wanting to waste gas or brake pads can really help make others look like really wasteful clowns. Lights (in at least slightly planned communities, anyway) are timed, people!

Another genius scenario back when I had my 71 Camaro street/strip car: A 4-lane local road with center turn lane at night, I'm southbound in right lane at stop light with light traffic. Idiot with buddies in Big 70s GM car in northbound left lane starts revving his engine and yelling something, probably about racing but I couldn't hear him. Light turns green and he takes off, squeeling one tire. Right behind him is a marked cop car with bubble tops and everything, idiot never bothered to look behind him. Cop pulls him over for a nice chat about his driving skills I'm sure.

I take it happily lmao.... Yea but motorcycles scare me on the road!!! If had one though i would always drive way more aggressive than others just to stay away from idiots. Because to be honest I had a scenario with a motorcycle which I didn't like. But i was in my 2010 camaro, and I had a place to be. felt like **** after, but he aint help either. I was in the wrongm and wont do it again cause mistakes with motorcycle riders cant always be corrected. But anyway I see tuners always try to prove something... and not nice one's like supra's or nsx or skylines. But civics, colbalt's etc. Like just cause you got a loud exhaust does not mean I will put my foot in it... and shatter your dreams lol. However normally we just have streetlight gunner's (people who floor it from one red light to the next one) which makes no sense to me with gas prices the way they are
