My buddy just won Division 3 Championship, his name Aaron Witsman, his ride, a 1981 Chevy Monza 380"sbc/glide/12bolt. will run mid 8s in quarter.
I helped mount body, helped on the base machine work of the engine and he IS a good friend, I get to work on his truck, trailer, etc.
And 21 yrs ago he won Pro class title at a little independent track in southern Indiana called Speed Drag Strip.
not bad for a little shop in Indiana his dad has, 99% of the tooling is older than his dad, and we can build some killer equipment,,, too bad his chassis builder passed away a few years ago.

Wow sounds like I am tooting my own horn, must be sleepy. Just a good day when one of us little guys gets a chance to crow about friends. And its cool I had a hand in it. I learned as much from his dad as I have from anybody else,,,he has made me a better machinist just by letting me use equipment and help out in shop. wish I could have been there for it!

Congratulate him by throwing some bubbly 30 wt oil around. It's always cool to hear the victory stories of the small shops. I got to work at a friends small garage, one year we won an amateur class 1st place. It was a great feeling we all shared. Some great stories there too.

Speeds Drag strip in New Hope Indiana, or also said to be in Freedom Indiana. http://www.newhopedragstrip.com/
out in middle of no where, had one guy try to rip off owner and several other people, the current owner was in on renovations as partner, so when the other guy did some illegal crap, he bought out the REAL owner and its safe now.Man do I miss friday night drags, hauling up there in my 61 unibody F100 on dads single axle trailer, hilly, winding roads. took number 8 in points in 90. Aaron took first. run off was for free pass following year.
We both lost on first round for points run off.
Name came from the founder Speed Wise, he went to a drag race and came home and built this one next to their farm.
Started in 60's and only closed for a year or two at a time if I remember correctly. This during ownership issues.
