Satin Black paint for underhood and suspension

Hey guys I am looking at possibly using the Eastwood 2K Ceramic Satin Chassis black under the hood and on some suspension parts. Wondering if any of you have used this or what other satin black you have used and how well you like it.

Eastwood Chassis Black and Extreme Chassis black. All semi gloss and look great. Look also at SEM Hot Rod Black if flat/satin is your thing.

I just shot my frame with the 2k Satin Chassis Black...I wish it was a little flatter more like flat primer but it did turn out nice.

I took a look at your build and the frame looks very nice. How many coats and what tip gun did you use? Your build is sweet!

I like the look of satin, but it's hard to find just the right finish. I have thought about the Hot Rod Black as well.

John Deere Blitz black. Looks right is durable and cheap.

I used Eastwoods Underhood Black for the inners and firewall. Came out nice... not too much sheen. I'm not building a show car here!

It's about 3 coats, and as for tips....well what ever comes in the cheap HVLP gun from Harbor Freight..

I believe that would be a 1.4 tip from Harbor Freight, because I was thinking about getting one just to spray this kind of stuff through instead of my SATA. Thanks again.

I typically use black basecoat (anybody's, but usually Nason for me), and a semigloss clear, for inner fenders and firewalls.

What brand semigloss clear do you use?

I saw a frame painted with this yesturday... I wish I had seen this sooner... I used the the regular Eastwood Chassis black and while it sprayed OK, I'm not real satisfied with the finish.

John Deere Blitz black. Looks right is durable and cheap.


John Deere "Blitz Black" is what the NCRS Corvette Resto Weenies use when they want correct black paint in a can as it the most correct appearing "Black Out" black paint available in a spray can that is easy to use and easy to find locally.

It is also very good paint!

Love this thread. Really there are so many options/products even beyond satin black. Many have done satin underhood/gunmetal suspension. I used SEM Hotrod Black underhood, semi gloss on the suspension. I like the contrast and will carry it through as I get the engine rigged in:

I've used this on my '68 Camaro, '68 Nova and will on my '67 El Camino. It's easy to apply and holds up well.

Thought I would post a follow up. I went with the Eastwood 2K Ceramic satin black. It didn't spray as well as I wanted (should have reduced a little) so I got it a little heavy which created a little more shine than I originally wanted. I think I am going to give the SEM Hotrod black a try next.

I just now saw this thread today or I would have replied earlier. I am pretty sure that Brian used the Eastwood Ceramic satin black when he painted the engine bay on my car. I had been asked before how much he reduced it if any but I honestly can't remember the exact ratio. I was looking for the contrast because I was having the car painted gloss black. To me this satin coating gives a nice modern upgrade to the finish they used from the factory. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you hoped. Maybe reducing it some is the ticket. I do know the stuff is pretty durable. Here are a few photos. They look very similar to the pictures Ron has posted of his engine bay using the other product.

I love the Satin for the under Carraige and the Wheel Wheels. I will be detailing mine again soon..I did go gloss in the engine area, but yours in Satin looks Sweet...

Another vote for Hot Rod Black (firewall only, frame is powder coated)
