I am wanting to mount my computer under the drivers side fender on the X of the firewall. Has anyone used this location or see any problems. I think the inner fender clearance should be fine, I just want to make sure it clears.

What happens when you have the car all buttoned up and painted and the ECM needs to come out?

It has the latch on the top and it pulls right out. I haven't seen the inner fenders on in so long I am not sure how much clearance is there. I could make an access panel through the inner fenders also. Just not sure...this is where I would like to mount it.

I think it would be fine. They live under the hood of new trucks. I helped installing an LQ9 in a jeep and the computer is under the hood. That's lived for a while not without issues.
Is your concern heat, getting wet or what?

My concern is not being able to get to it with everything mounted in place. I just want to make sure I am not missing something?
Heat and water aren't a concern. It should be well protected.

Water is not a real issue heat would worry me but where you have it heat is not a problem. The ECM is mounted behind the RH fenderwell on C5 Corvettes. I am still trying to determine a home for mine. Right now I'm thinking on front of the RH fenderwell mostly under the fender.

It gets pretty busy over in that corner with the master cylinder (booster if you have power brakes), clutch master, brake lines etc. And then the hood hinge is usually in the way so it is only possible to get one hand down there.

x2.....I mounted a power distribution block in the same location and it can be a hassle working in that area, plus you can only get one hand in there. I just tried this with my E38 ECM and with my setup there is not enough room to install/remove it.
