Brilliant idea Mike! Lets get this ball rolling....1 G, ready to contribute (and I don't have a bonafide PT car to speak of). This is perfect. A little restructuring needed, but It has space for a modest but technical road course, a square section for autocross/drifting, a long straight for drag, and room for housing and padox. it would have to be handled in a non profit fashion, and a little bit of ass talk here, but with the quantity of members on this board, I highly doubt it would be a problem to get the initial funding for purchase and construction of a "club track", or annual contributions (i.e. dues) for insurance/property taxes/maintenance/operating costs, etc.

No frills aesthetics on housing and padox space....metal shipping containers; Cheap to buy, readily available (Port of Miami!), looks bad ass, lends extraordinarily well to a dormitory layout, and can be configured to any footprint. Either get a firm that is experienced in building with it, or a firm that might want to take it on as a halo project. Add a Solar farm for the housing, independent external solar lighting for the track/grounds, and you have something that will cut down on operational costs....and as a slight bonus, help enormously with the the car culture image.

1000 members x $1,000 = $1,000,000. 1 year initial investment window per member would be $83.00 a month on a payment plan. Hell, even if it took 2 years to get construction capitol.

A little unorthodox since no monetary profit will be gained, but a legally binding contract signed by all committed PT.com members interested in...well, commiting. 10 members...or sponsors (cough cough) would each give a lump $1,000.00 up front to secure and pay for the property out right and the others would sign and agree to giving their $1,000 over the course of a set schedule (i.e. 1 year = $83.34 a month, 18 month = $55.56 a month ). Use the tried and true perk system for enticing commitments: An observation deck to the track, possibly built on-top of the dorms, accessible by key only, with only 1,500 keys cut and a brass, copper, brick, cement wall with the financial founding/contributing members names engraved.

A set annual, quarterly, or bi-annual PT member invite...which affords group buy negotiations for external room, boarding, restaurant, travel, etc. Plus a annual to quarterly public invite with entrance fees (going back into the pot of course)...would contribute to self sustainability. A annual extended-weekend public event could become a legitimate destination in and of itself. Plus, Being near a port would also make it way easier for internationals to ship their car ahead of their trip to the U.S., close to an international Airport for ease of travel as well as ease of renting a high performance vehicle for spirited driving ;)

This aint as far fetched as it seams...the easy part is getting the members to contribute the capitol. The hard part is finding the members who are willing to dedicate/sacrifice their time to the whole planning/construction/management process. But we all have connections that we can bring in for the cause. Not that I think it would be an issue, but for safety sake, It would have to be as cheap to maintain and operate as possible, in the off chance a large portion of the community stops paying their nominal dues. This would be incredibly unique, and kick a bit of dirt at the high end "Ranch" type complexes. This isn't something that would be open on a daily basis, or even a weekly basis. It would be shut down and deserted more than it's open...but that's how the operating costs, and thus dues kept low and affordable.

I'm sure a few companies may throw in some money for R&D time when they need to test parts. Also holding events there every couple months and charging x amount for entry to people who didn't help with initial cost and then a lower price for people who did just so you know there is enough money to keep it up and going. As someone mentioned before, Floridas economy is crap right now and I bet they would take a semi low ball offer. The only thing is getting someone with the money to back it and let us pay them back over time or get a bank to loan that much money.

WOW! Oh the possibilities! We could set up a company, sell stock or commit to stock and see how far we could get.

Heck, I am in for $25K, that's a start! More investment, more stock and vote in direction property would be used for. Plus, get enough commitment. and the more both banks and current owners would pay attention.

^^That was my exact thoughts. Charge admission and maybe have vendors come if possible. Hold one every couple months since you could do it year round in Florida. When we aren't using it could probably rent it out to other groups that want to have a meet or companies if they want to do some R&D there. I like the ideas on the cheap housing arrangements. People who throw in get one and for those who come that aren't normals or have a place we could set up a little camp ground with utility hook ups.

Is Harley Davidson willing to maintain a contractual obligation to using the facility as it's test track?

I want a career change so I'd move down there to run out full time for enough money. I'd be interested in equity as well.

Ps: I'd need gator fighting training.

If I retire from the CG next summer, FL is where I'll be headed. I can live there year round and keep the place operating and looking good for all you guys!
