Saw this posted over at 3800pro.com (http://www.3800pro.com/forum/gizmos/37054-eat-aeroforce-torque-has-kr-working-now.html), and I had to share.

When you think about it, it's pretty amazing, and attainable by everyone on this board. I guess were so used to seeing stand alone units that it's a case of "forest through the trees".

Old Android Phone = Free (or damn near it on Craigslist)

"Torque Pro (http://www.appbrain.com/app/torque-pro-%28obd2-car%29/org.prowl.torque)" android app = $4.79

proper Ebay OBD-II Bluetooth scanner = $25.00

..and you have a dedicated in car scan tool, parameter dashboard, GPS data logger (and depending on the phone features) G force meter, compass, and a "black box" features. for under 30 dollars...that's lcd color and you can have in your hand while your under the hood. Albeit not the fastest or most precise, but for the minimal investment.... As stated in the linked thread, the quality of the adapter appears to be the primary factor in sampling rate, and the Knock Retard monitor makes it worth the cost alone.

Torque's website (http://torque-bhp.com/software/torque-android-obd2-adapters/) states "Kiwi Bluetooth, pictured above – the most fully supported adapter for Torque", but it's around $90.00.

Per their info Adapter Wiki (http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Bluetooth_Adapters), the scantool.net OBDLINK has the fasted read speed...but costs $150.00

As far as the cheap E-bay ones, their Wiki states "Many units seem to suffer poor build quality and reliability issues. Some units are perfectly fine. Make sure you purchase with a buyer who has a decent returns policy should the unit turn out to be defective. I would recommend avoiding this adapter, *especially* if you intend to use it on a Ford or other vehicle which uses the J1850-PWM protocol" the generic E-bay ones are what I've seen most in the Forum reviews of the software. I guess it's all up to you...Buy the one they recommend to begin with, get the one with the best refresh rate, or try one of the generics at a fraction of the price.

The best generic? I'd do some google'in and see which others have had the most trouble with overall, and more specifically, any issues with your specific powerplant/EMS. As with everything...Bad experience = likely to shout, Good experience = less likely to shout.
