Hello, I have a Muncie trans (not sure if it's an M20 or M21) that needs a rebuild. Any recommendations for a shop in the San Diego area to do the work? Don't want to drive to LA, but suppose I would if there was a really great shop.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Hey Jason...
There is a place located in Spring Valley area. Called Border Parts. Think the exit is called Bancroft off the 94 fwy.
Second place is located in El Cajon, Called MTI. The street is called Marshal.
I'll try to think of some others...

The 20's and the 21's look the same on the outside.
The M-21 the gears are tighter while the M-20's will have a larger spread between gears.
Do you remember when you drove it if you shifted soon right after you started out?
The RPM's will drop lower between gears with the M-20's .

Maybe San Diego Gear and Axle? Wish I could help but I only moved here (SD) recently.

also i think the close ratio m-21 is fine spline,26, and the wide ratio m-20 is coarse spline with less teeth...

Hands down BEST place in San Diego Area is Factory Transmissions. make sure you go to the one in Santee off of 67 and prospect. Best prices, and talented staff I wouldn't trust anyone else.
