So i recently bought my 69 camaro it has a 350 turbo. Well the trans leaked a little when i got it. So i decided to change to trans filter and fuild because i had no idea when the last time it had been changed. The new filter came with a rubber gasket. well my dad is one of those old school guys and said put some gasket sealant on the gasket. well i said its rubber does it need it..... wont the sealant keep the rubber from moving when the trans heats up and cools. well i finally just gave up and let him put some on it because he has 30 year more experience than i do. well the trans still leaks. Is it just one those things im gonna have to get over or is there something i can do to help prevent leaking........even if i have to put a new gasket.

You should not have to put up with leaking gaskets with your trans aslong as they are installed properly. With rubber gaskets I don't like to put any rtv on them but I don't like to use them in the first place. I prefer cork gaskets with edelbrock gasketcinch or a light coat of rtv. I also put a little thread sealant on the pan bolts. You also have to make sure the pan rail is completely flat. Fastener torque is another issue since most people crank them down which pinches the gasket and bends the pan. Torque the bolts to 12 ftlbs.

You may want to check the o-ring on the trans dipstick tube. Those are notorious for leaking and you can't see "where" the leak is coming from with the trans in the car... Check it.

Great point. Make sure the dipstick is bolted to the bellhousing. If it is not it will move around and the oring cannot seal.
