View Full Version : 5th Gen power mirrors on a 1st Gen F-body?

I've been doing a lot of searching around the forums today trying to see what everyone is running for power mirrors on a 1st Gen Camaro. All I've been able to find, that people seem to like, is the newer 3rd Gen mirrors. Has anyone tried the 5th Gen mirrors yet? From what I can see w/ some quick measuring they look like they'd fit w/ some minor fab work. I'm just not to sure about the over all size. Has anyone seen this done or has anyone mocked it up to look at sizing? My thought process on this is that the 5th Gen mirrors have much shaper angles and might look a little better than the rounded 3rg Gen. 67-69's have the profound sharp edges cut down the car so I thought maybe the newer mirrors might fit the body a little better. Thoughts? Even better; pics?

I don't think I've ever seen a 3rd gen mirror on a 1st gen. I have however seen plenty of them them rocking 2nd gen mirrors.
I would think that the mirrors on a 5th Gen would be HUGE on a first gen. They are already big on a 2010. But if someone is willing to do it, I'll take a looksee!

Problem w/ the 2nd Gen is they're not power! I'm weeks away from body and paint and I have yet to find a nice set of power mirrors that don't look extremely out of place.

5th gen mirrors are goofy looking, they stick out too far...I think they would look out of place on a first gen.

I'm starting to think the same thing. I've been at this for a few days straight and I think I'm leaning to the C6 vette mirrors. They are super pricy but I found some pics around the forums and I think they look the best out of everything I've seen. Guess I'll be junk yard hopping this week!

Trust me when I say that those very words have come out of my mouth several times as I agonize over what sideviews to use...I have a 67, so I have vent-window clearance needs as well.
BUT--after searching and searching, it dawned on me that I will be the only driver for this vehicle. I'm building it for me. So I asked myself, how many times have I actually adjusted my sideviews on my DD?
once when I initially bought it, and maybe if I get it washed. since I don't plan on ANYONE but me touching it, it shouldn't be a problem!

Iamtheonlyreal1 did a First Gen with C6 sideviews. I'll see if I can find the thread or a pic or two.

Didn't take too long! I can respect the thought and effort that went into it, but to me they don't really fit with the shape of the car.

If anyone is interested, I have a set of bullet mirrors which came off a 1982 corvette. The body of these mirrors are the same bodies used on 2nd gen camaro's. The only difference is the stem was longer, however the original 2nd gen stems work on these bodies so I swithed out the stems to the 2nd gen. These are full power mirrors of both the driver and passenger side, the glass is good and I have all the original wiring including the toggle switch. You can check google or ebay for these mirros but they are pretty rare and pretty hard to find a complete set with all the wiring. I would sell these for $500 for the pair which is what I paid for them about a year ago. They were going to go on a 2nd gen project which I no longer have. PM me if you want some pictures.

Take a look at the 92-99 Buick Le Sabre mirrors. You can get a pair on eBay for around $60. You do have to work the plastic a bit to get them to mount flush on your Camaro, but I think they look good and less bulky then the vette mirrors

For my install, I bought a late model mustang mirror switch and added a chrome cover to get it to match the rest of my interior. You can get the switches for around $40
Here's a wiring diagram showing the pinout of the Buick mirrors and how to hook them up to a Mustang switch:

I'm installing a set of C6 mirrors on my '69 Camaro. Stole the idea from Iamtheonlyreal1. I'm installing several carbon fiber appearance parts from anvil and wanted the mirrors done too. So, mine are out having a carbon fiber look applied. I'll post pics when they come back, but here's a link to Performance Corvettes with their pics - they will provide finished mirrors or re-finish yours.

Well I decided on the C6 mirrors. The plan is to drive this thing when it's all said and done so I want something that I can actually see out of! Mirrors are ordered and the car goes in the shop in a few days!

Hello everyone, I just responded to another thread regarding custome mirrors for a 69 Camaro. I just found this thread and i also have a 69 convertible and i really like these mirrors called Hollywood smoothie. The question I have my is car is completely done and painted. Will these mirrors fit and bolt on without any body work. I was hoping to find a set of mirrors that could work without the expense of repainting my doors and suggestions.
I just added the photo of my car and as you can see the mirrors are stock and painted black. I would like something different with a painted body since I am going for that pro touring theme.
Thanks for any advice
