I have what is basically the same thing as a GV overdrive, only the light duty model. How much TQ do you have?

I want to install behind a Turbo 400 in a 1ton crew cab aluminum bed rollback with a stock 454 to gain overdrive.

Ah, probably more torque than my P-type unit can handle. Good luck on finding a J-Type.

Please explain the difference between a "P" type and a "J" type.

I have found no reference to those terms in the Gear Vendor's literature.

Gearvendors purchased Laycock GKN who made the exact same product. The overdrive units have been manufactured for years, and are easiest to find in Volvo bricks with the M45/46 transmission, but have been used on many cars since the 40's. There are 2 types of units, "J" and "P" Types. The P type handles more torque and is what gear vendors now sells as their brand. You can get into these units rather cheap if you're frugal, I put together one for a TH400 application and only spent $900.

I have 2 J-Type units that are rebuilt and ready to go, but the steels are only good for ~350 ft lbs.
