Hello, does anyone can shine a light on the amount of ATF needed to do a simple oil change, I spilled some while changing the dipstick and now I need to top it off but would rather change the oil,
Thanks in advance

What year transmission and is it a factory transmission pan or aftermarket that is deeper?

I don't know the exact quantity, but If you are dropping the pan and refilling...
Fill until you can see fluid on the dipstick with the engine off. Closer to the fill line that the bottom is better, but GM manuals state that it is safe to start as long as there is fluid on the stick.
Start it up and continue to add until it is at the correct level.
To make sure that it is right, before you pat yourself on the back, and say job well done, run the transmission through the gears a few times Drive for 3 sec, Neutral for 3 sec Rev for 3 sec, Neutral for 3 sec, 2, 1 and so on...then double check your level.

As an oil change (as opposed to a new trans), there is no definitive answer since much fluid remains in the trans, converter, lines cooler. Here are some of my favorite tips:
-Don't overfill. A low but reasonable amount of fluid is better than overfilling.
-Raise the driven wheels off the ground, so that you can test the trans under minimum load to the system. Only raise them a coupla inches off the ground such that the car is still level.
-Add fluid to just below the minimum fluid level on the dipstick.
-Put the car in gear and lift foot off brake. Watch driven wheels turn. Check forward and reverse. Add a bit more fluid but....
-DO NOT TRY TO TOP OFF UNTIL AFTER A GOOD TEST DRIVE. It's okay to drive the car under light low with the system a pint low. Finalize the level at operating temp. Basically a two laps around the block under light load should do the trick.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll check one way or another as you guide me, matter fact I'll print this page so I'll have a tranny filling 101. Great I'll jump on it tomorrowafter work, will miss a track day sunday but hopefully will have another one before the season end.
