I am looking at a set of rear 18x10 rims for my 68 camaro project. They have a 4.5" backspacing, so I know they will not fit stock. My plan is to mini tub and shorten the 12 bolt anyways. Does anybody see any potential issue here before I fork out the cash? Is there standard math that will tell me how much I need to shorten the rear axle? Its the stock 12 bolt from a 68. i plan on running a Glink.
Thanks, Erik

If you're going to mini tub, why not go with some 18x12's?

You're making more than enough room.
17x9.5" wide on my car and its with stock axle and tubs, no rubbing

18x12's will probably cost another $1000. Too much for my blood. As much I would like them.
If I do not mini tub them they wont fit at all.
Thanks, Erik

If you don't have the wheels you can order them with the correct back spacing so you don't have to tub. Do some measuring. There is plenty of info on the web how to measure for wheel offset so you can build the wheel correctly. Even if you have to go a bit narrower. 1/2 an inch isn't going to hurt anything for tire size.

Don't know why, but "Glink" looked funny to me... I know what you're saying, but maybe Glink is a new word!

You don't need to mini tub to fit a 10" wheel in a 68 Camaro. You do need to nail the backspacing and roll the fender lips. If you are changing the width of the rear you can adjust for the 4.5" backspacing at that time...

you wont get em tucked up in there though. if you want a stance, even on a 69 you need to minitub. I have 20x10s on my 69 and they fit fine and are tucked but it gets really tight on the inner wheel well when you turn into a uneven surface. I am tired of putting up with it and am minitubbing this fall along with changing out the rear suspension

/shrug. I had less rub issues with my 10" wheels than I do with my current 9" wheels only because of slight backspacking differences. Can't speak to how it works on a car slammed to the ground so if tucking is more important you may be right.
