This place was recently sold and it looks like they are trying to get the interest of our group. Check it out!!! It looks like it will be pretty fun.

I guess I had that coming! I have 2 issues: 1 is that I don't have the car yet (deal is in the works as we speak) and 2 is that I've never done an autocross before. I will be watching and learning if I go. I'm sure you guys can teach me a whole lot.

More to come on the new ride - it's a car from this site so I'll wait for the deal to be final before letting you know which car it is.

Everyone has their first time autocrossing, till then your just a spectator! If you go, and have your car, drive it! You won't be disappointed, it's a ton of fun.

as long as you have the car..

and the car runs well enough to drive on the street..

you SHOULD take it out on the Autox

AT LEAST ONCE.. THE CAR WILL MAKE IT ONE ROUND!!

it doesnt matter how well you do, or how well the car does.. its the chops you have to get out there at that starting line.

OK I spoke with Pat from YearOne today. And I told him that we may have some people coming to enjoy their event. I did ask about the layout and it seem that the autocross may be set up like a Goodguy's event. So the track won't be as large as our normal but it will still be very fun. And also he told me that the BURNOUT contest will be a freestyle exabition. So you won't be just setting still.....you have to keep the car moving!!!!!!! Sounds like a DRIFTING event?? So hopefully this event will grow.

Oh by the way, he could not believe how quick our group has grown. He was very excited for us!!!!!!!!!

Brent, I got my calender marked and may have 3 others 1st timers with me ( gota get them hooked somehow). the freestyle burnouts sound very cool . Can I borrow your BMW wheels to put on my Z so I can enter the burnout comp ?:bananna2:

This sounds good, I might try to make it over since it's not too far away. I don't see anywhere on their website that we have to register for the auto-x, so I assume no registration required unless you are doing the swap meet ?

OK, spoke w/ Pat @ YearOne and here's what he knows so far:

The course will be a beginner friendly / entry level style track (short & tight) on the infield of the short track.
Drivers will pay $5 admission to the car show, then an additional $15-$20 for (2) laps on the auto-x.
Auto-X will run from approximately 11-4.
If you want more than 2 laps, you pay again.
Timing will be done via transponders.
Helmets will probably NOT be required since it's a tight/slow course.

Hope this helps some ! I think I'll pass on this one. **EDIT**

At LSFest didn't people just run laps dawn til dusk? I was going to come check this out but the $20/ 2 laps thing seems pretty $$$.

Taking another look at it it says "Autocross: $10.00 for 3 laps". That works.

That's much better than what they were initially planning on charging ! But still, keep in mind that the track will be VERY beginner friendly. Don't expect any speeds over 30-35 mph tops. I was told the goal is to keep the track speeds low so the people who have never autocrossed will get out and try it. Nothing wrong with that, just be aware that it won't be like PSMC or RTT- events.

I've never done it before so that should be fine. Was thinking about doing this though (assuming I can get the car together that is) - https://www.pro-touring.com/content.php?149-Get-Started-Racing%E2%80%9D-Autocross-School

Oh wow! That is better. I hope to be going to Miloton's Friday night for a event that Year One is hosting. I will let Pat know that the price is looking alot better and hopefully this will draw some more interest!!!. I do know this, they are having tuff times but it is better to sell a lot and make a little than to sell a little and make a lot!!!!!!
I will be there to watch, I just don't have anything to race!!! It's killing me.....I have to have something next year!!

1981silverz28

That's a much better price . I think they will get more people participating for their 1st time when the price is lower. I'm getting excited already

Well for those of you that showed up, thanks I enjoyed seeing you. But for those of you that didn't come.....you didn't miss anything. I know right now it is hard times and it is hard to get things going and Year One tried but the turn out wan't that good and the autocross track was way to tight!!!!! If you had a car with any size you would have struggled.
But at least they are trying and a little participation is better than none. Maybe next year it will be better!!!

SparkyRnD
10-15-2011, 03:57 PM
we had a good time at the meet & greet, but wondered how the autox turned out. Sounds like we didn't miss very much. Ya'll missed some good donuts and coffee, and some eye-candy that walked by the shop every 15 minutes going to the Taste of Acworth!
