Normally, I wouldn't post like this, but we're stuck away from home. We checked under the hood when we stopped about 90 miles north of Vegas; when we got back on the road the hood opened up at about 60, wrecking the hinges in the process. We are now sitting waiting for a tow down to Vegas. We were making our annual trip from Phoenix to Reno for Hot August Nights.
Anyway, if anyone can help us get some hinges tomorrow, that would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, we'll have to wait for a set to be overnighted from somebody. Right now we're in limbo. You can reach me at 602 XXX XXXX or just post in here. Thanks.

Try posting in the emergency room section. You may spark some responces.
Good luck, wish I could help.

Good luck Chris, we'll be on our way up the 395 from San Diego tomorrow. Hope you make it okay, we usually swing by A&W every night to get some floats.

Thanks for the tip, but these guys don't stock them. We haven't found them yet, but we've got a pretty good line on a junk yard that probably does.
Thanks to whoever moved the thread, too. I was pretty exasperated and posting on my phone last night. BTW, I forgot to post last night that we are in the 68 Camaro. We were stuck out in the desert in the parking lot of gas station/brothel. We finally got the car down to Vegas and tucked away in his garage. Hoping to have a set today and get up to Reno by this evening.
Post mortem on the old ones is that they bent along where they mount to the hood, in the process ripping the rivets out that hold the front arm on, rendering them useless. Unfortunately, we'll probably end up with an ugly looking junkyard set, but at this point we just want to make it to Reno.
The hood looked closed when we left but must have not been latched properly. Apparently, the safety latch didn't do a thing, as it looks good as new.

Just to finish this off, we made it up to Reno late last night. Got a set of hinges at a Vegas parts yard. The hood doesn't sit 100% right and there's a few nicks and chip in the paint, but it's serviceable. I think I'm going to be paranoid about having the hood shut for the rest of my life, though.

I can relate... My first car was a 69 Camaro, and going down a back road one day my hood flew open. Straight up. Unfortunately the rear corners dug into the fenders, making a mess of my sheetmetal and paint. A guy stopped and helped me remove the hood from the hinges (they were broken and stuck) and put it in his pickup truck to follow me home...
Scary experience!

Same thing happened to me when I was 16 and taking my first car to be painted, hood flew up at 60 mph in a MGB vert, hood folded back over the windshield.
All I saw was a wall of black coming at the windshield. Needless to say, did get the car painted that day.

Amongst all the LS & Fikse talk I forgot to ask you about your Cutlass, I have a 71 vert I bought from the original owner about 7 yrs ago.
