headers before or after install

I need to know if it is easier to install the headers before or after I install my ls in my 68 firebird.

I put them in afterward with no problem at all. Both cars I did were first gens and had R&P. Not sure with steering box, but i should know shortly with my 5.3 in 68 firebird. I havent heard them being a problem either way. What headers/steering are you running?

Thanks. I've got Hooker headers and the third gen box is already installed.

On the passenger side sometimes the headers are a pain to get in full length headers with the AC box on some cars. Im not sure how this is on a LS engine or a first gen, but its easy enough to set them in there loose, and just be careful dropping the engine in.

Stock subframe, LS2, 670 steering box, dynatech headers . . . After engine was in car, driver from bottom and passenger from top - no problems.

if ur running full lenght headers ur gonna need to put them on after dropping the engine, and like some of the guys said the driver side actualy go in under the car, pass side was easy tho i have BRP MUSCLE RODS full length "HUSLER" headers

Okay. I'll put them in after. It sounds like doing it with sbc headers. The passenger will go on with the motor but the driver's has to sit in or go in from the bottom. I have to do the wiring so I'll put the headers on after.
