Does anyone build model cars? I built one a couple years ago for the first time in since I was 6. My stepdad and I used to build the alot to get some bonding time in before he married my mom and I always had fun with it.

The last one I built was out of sheer bordom and I didn't pay to much attention to detail builing it but I still think it looks pretty cool. This is my last one I built, 2005 Z06.

I picked this one up yester day and I am going to be building it with a pro-touring influance, Its a 3 in 1 kit from Revell of a 79 Z28, this is the "street" version.

There's a thread on here titled "scale pro touring cars" or something with a few models.

here it is.

I used to build them a LOT since I was a kid and up until about 4 years ago when I quit. Had too much real car stuff to work on. It's been so hot here lately, I dug through my boxes of stuff and pulled out a barely started '71 Plymouth GTX. I'm waiting on another parts kit to show up for wheels and tires, then it's time for paint. I'll post some pictures when it's finished.

I was into the model car stuff big time when I was running Machined Aluminum Specialties. I started machining aluminum parts for all scales in '92 and gave the business up in '08 when sales fell off and I didn't have the time or energy because of work.
I still dabble a bit. This is a 16th scale '56 chevy I converted from a '55. It is put having molds made for resin casting right now...

Bumpers, headlights and tailights were all scratch built from sheet stock and cutting up the '55 pieces. The front bumper was actually built from 35 different "parts".

This is the grille being fabbed up. this ended up having over 50 pieces in it.

Where do you get parts kits from?

Back when kits were cheap (under 10 bucks) you could find them all over. The distribution network has dwindled terribly in the last ten years. If you want to buy kits for parts your best bet is to find a local toy show or use eBay. Craigslist may be a source also. List a "wanted" ad or just search for model kits.
Look for a model car club in your area to help in the source pool.
