I'm going to build a simple fixed height rotisserie. Was thinking of using 3 inch square tubing that is 3/16'' hick. Is this over kill? Can I get away 2.5 inch tubing and/or 1/8 thick? Or 3 inch that is an 1/8'' thick or 2.5 thats 3/16'' thick. Thanks Bill

I would use the heavy wall receiver tubing. Inner and outer can be gotten at wholesale steel locations that sell to the public such as Blue Collar Supply in Sacramento, CA.

Bill,
A lot will depend on the design of the rotisserie, not to sound like a smart ass, but you can (and I have seen them) make a rotisserie out of pine 2x4s, its all in the structural design so you might want to decide on that and enlighten us so that you get a more sound and valid answer.

Tom,
No problem. Thinking of using the design of the Roto 2000. Looks not to be to complicated for me to build. Sorry I dont know how to post links. Let me know what you think. Thanks Bill

Bill,
Check this out. http://www.autobody101.com/content/auto-body-rotisserie-plans/
I've had these on file for a while now. All of the stock sizes are listed and they even give you a castor site.

Bill, they use 3/16 on there rotisserie, I would think with 3 inch box and 3/16 walls you'd be fine, I wouldn't try to push it and save weight or cost though. do you have much welding experience? that's not the project to find out you have a bad weld on.
