A friend of mine is the promoter for this event and is also the guy that does all the RTT event shirts.
This year, to add to the mix, there hopefully will be something we all love, a bit of autocrossing. We are working out those details now, but I have marked my calendar for this week.
There are other surprises in the works, but for anyone that has been to this event before, you know this is already one of the biggest 7 day cruise type events on the planet.
Check out the link, see what your plans look like and join me for yet another great event that includes driving your car!

WHO IS IN?

I am in. I was going anyway, but with the autocross I am psyched. I missed the autocross at the powertour this year due to a bad axle seal. Usually I just drive around & sit in traffic. Hit the swap meet early to see whats there. There's a decent 1/4 mi drag strip in gulfport. Its not part of the event, but I went friday night and had a great time. Where will the autocross be set up?

Probably in Gulfport. Drag Strip....... interesting. Do you have a name on that? Maybe we could tie something there too, speed stop????? do it on a weekday when track isn't busy? The more things like that, the more we can draw attention to the event and add value, plus, make it more fun for our segment of the hobby.

Are you serious?!? The one year I decide not to come out, you all make an event out of it. Just my luck. I've even talked with the regional SCCA about setting up autocross in previous years and nothing. You guys jump on board and ... well... Maybe I'll try to make it again.

Chris, any contact info on SCCA guys in that area? I may try and use them if possible. Saves me hauling cones, timing, etc. I really plan on driving the charger down, so if I bring all that, I will have to put a trailer hitch on it to bring my trailer....

I have talked with Frank and several others about this week long event.
I am all in guys, and will be there all week now. I moved another midweek deal to another week, so I can stay and enjoy the whole experience. How about everyone looking at their calendar and lets have a PT turnout. I am sure I can get us some special dinner plans together for at least one evening.
http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/ is the link to the event, then go to registration. It looks like if we register before August 15, we get the early bird special, so do it ASAP!
When you fill out form, at "Club Affiliation", put PT.com so they will know you are with our group. I think we can turn this into something big for those in the area and at a time of the year that it isn't so dang hot.
I have asked the promoter to come on and say a few words so when Rod does show up, welcome him to our community.

I just moved from Bay St. Louis (chillest spot during Cruisin') and now you guys are talking about making an appearance? I might just have to visit the coast again.

Bill, Talked to Joe Wheeler (901 - 372 seven two four 0) he said to call Charles Hanes at 901 237 0 four three four, this would be the best number to contact him at... he's with the SCCA Mid South Area, he seemed pretty positive they would lend you the cones and timers. If that does not work out let me know and we can try another person.

I am not sure I can stay all week- hotels are 180-200/night. When all the details are ironed out, could you post a schedule of events? I will probably have to make it 3-4 days and dont want to miss the driving events! If anyone wants to hit the drag strip one night, I am in for that too.

Yea its packed out every year. Just don't rip the tires off on the main drag or anywhere near people- cops don't play there. Traffic WILL jam up every afternoon- make sure your cooling systems are up to par! I'm eagerly waiting to see what days the driving events will be on so I can book rooms.

Guys, I got the word today. There was a glitch with the location planned for the autocross and this close to the event there is not an option to make this happen this year. Sadly we have to "POSTPONE" this event til next year, but stay tuned, we will be there then.

I'm in, we are arriving at the Hard Rock Casino on Monday the 3rd. Look for my 69 TA vert along the boulevard. Can't wait. Have to leave on Friday though to go to a wedding in Abilene on Saturday. Will be a long two days back.

Bill,
I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and have attended every Cruisin the Coast since the first one. It is a wonderful event, with an awesome cross-section of vehicles. Basically something for everyone. I used to autocross here in the late 70's, and know basically what is needed, and where it can and can't be done. If you need a local person to assist in procurring, or inspecting a possible site, let me know, I would be happy to help. I grew up here and know a lot of folks. Hopefully I will have my Pro Touring/Autocross 67 Camaro finished. Either way I would like to help make this happen.
