Just wanted to get some input on the little 4.8 and its 1200hp Dyno run at 26psi. These little engines are cheaper than the 5.3s. Internals were stock. Intake was a fast 102 and it wore a pair of Total Engine Airflow heads. Twin turbo setup with 76mm turbos. Did anyone read the article?

I'll have to check out the article... my truck has a 4.8 in it... little bugger moves pretty nice... even with the factory "knock"....haha

I read it. They were actually trying to grenade it to find the limit. Wow. Beyond impressive. Running race gas but still...

I was there at Westech when they did it.. pretty cool.. They kept TRYING to blow it up..
Of course living on the dyno is a bit different than in a car.. but still, that's a LOT of hp.

From the little research I have done those truck internals are safe to ~1000hp, but 1200 is pretty amazing. Those little engines are pretty amazing; heck, you can put a turbo, cam/springs, and injectors on a stock 5.3 and make over 600 hp on pump gas.

I think the heads will start lifting pretty quick though - especially over 700hp. Head bolts are the weak spot.

I believe they studded it. For what work that was done on it, was nice. TEA ported heads, NICE!!

They didn't stud it, just opened the ring end gap was the only change for the short block. Of course it would never survive long term in a vehicle at 26 psi, but 8 psi on the street and 15 psi on race gas would be a blast (hopefully not really a blast!). If it did let go then a drop in bullet would be a wrecking yard away.

Interesting article. I just picked up a 4.8 last night, a trade towards labor on a customer's car, and I am planning a similar turbo build (just not quite as much boost!). Destination for the motor is likely going to be a Porsche 944, which I also got in trade for labor.

Sounds like you have the potential for a nice setup

I have one of those too, but its going in another project. I figure 600hp or so will be plenty, esp with the stock transaxle! If (when) the transaxle barfs I have another plan for it though.
