Todd Gartshore was an amazing individual - of course he was legendary within the automotive enthusiast industry, but he was also a man of deep convictions and integrity. Along with that was Todd's attitude of "let's just get it done, no matter what it takes". I, like many of you, had the honor and pleasure of spending time with Todd talking cars, parts, politics, religion and many other topical subjects that came up at the moment. After talking with Todd about anything, I always felt inspired to try harder and do better and stop whining about whatever it was and just fix it!

It with all these thoughts in mind that Bill Howell and I decided to create and award a Todd Gartshore Memorial Spirit of the Event award at all the events produced by either of us. The award doesn't come with any prize other than a nice plaque, but it recognizes those individuals that exemplify those qualities that made Todd such an inspiration to so many.

It was our honor this last weekend to award the first Todd Gartshore Memorial Spirit of the Event award at the Heidts Performance Car Challenge to Randy Johnson. All weekend long, Randy displayed the "let's get it done" attitude as he worked through multiple mechanical issues. Never once did he whine or decide to go home - he did what needed to be done to get the car repaired and get back on track (despite the 94+ degree temperatures). Throughout the entire weekend, Randy continued to offer advice, encouragement, tools and whatever else anybody needed, making sure they had a great time and experience at the event.

Congratulations Randy on being the first recipient of the Todd Gartshore Memorial Spirit of the Event Award!

Randy was the perfect receipent for this award. He has always showed the grace and perserverence that Todd Gartshore embodied...even when faced with problems [and people] that would have caused others to whine, cry, or...quit. Congratulations Randy...you most certainly earned and deserve that award!

Randy is truely deserving of this award. He did thrash on his car all weekend. I know at times he probably was frustrated, but never let it show or get to him. He got through it and he was up and running in no time at all. Randy is one of the first ones to offer advice, help, or whatever you need. He is also good for comic relief. Congrats Randy, well deserved. I know that it was kinda emotional and I believe Todd was there looking over you.

Really good way to memorialize Todd. Way to go Randy, your romp down the straight at Gingerman a couple years ago, is still one of my favorite Pro Touring memories. Congrats, Ron

Congratulations Randy! Todd's memory to us and Spirit of the event just seems to go hand and hand. I just hate Todd is not here to enjoy it with you. He would be speechless too that there was such an award.

Chad Reynolds did a great job introducing this award to our community, Todd would definetly be speechless. It was a huge honor for me to present this award to Randy and a pretty emotional moment for everyone in the room. I too wish Todd was there to enjoy it.
