Here is my pride and joy...The Green Hornet. Can't wait to get her fired up! Bought over a year ago and it has been on the back burner for a while. Just got going on it again and had the turbo plumbing done. Car pics first then turbo pics.

that car looks great!

Rick Giles
07-14-2011, 06:18 PM
Thanks, the color is called Willow Green. That is what came on it from the factory allthough the inside of the trunk lid has the original paint on it with the jack sticker still in good shape but the color is slightly greener. The car is slightly more silver.

The exhaust manifolds are Gale Banks. They have snout on the front of each one that the wastegates mount to.

Wow, that is beautiful.

Where did you get the manifolds? The Banks website doesent seem to list them, at least not that I can find.

Rick Giles
07-15-2011, 07:18 AM
They were on the car when I bought it about a year and a half ago. No telling how long ago they were bought. I have never had good luck getting in touch with Banks.

Rick Giles
07-18-2011, 06:30 PM
Here are some intercooler pics...hope this helps. It took a whole lot of trimming to get the 3" thick Bell intercoolers to fit. Had to push the radiator back towards the engine and going to mount the ac condensor on the inside of the engine compartment because the intercoolers are in the spot where the condensor was.

looks great. wish more intercoolers were made thinner like say 2in cores. they say the first 1.5 in does 75% of the cooling anyways.

SickSpeedMonte
07-26-2011, 08:26 AM
What are you running that HSR with? What are the specs on the turbos (sorry if you have already mentioned it)

I've been wanting to build a TT SBC with that intake, iron manifolds, similar turbos, and even those exact valve covers for a few years now. That is a beautiful piece of work.

The turbos are 67mm Comp. It's a 383ci smallblock.
Actually the shifter was in the box til a few days ago...it's a B&M.

Curious...what color is this car?

Rick Giles
12-11-2011, 07:29 PM
The Green Hornet is not running yet. Should be in the spring. So no video yet.
The color is called Willow Green and that is the factory color. Although it has had one repaint, the repaint is slightly more silver. The trunk still has the original color in excellent shape along with the original jack sticker...crazy but beautiful!

Nice ride! I was expecting to see an LS under the hood when I read the title and was pleasantly surprised to see a traditional small block. Details? You're gonna need some better seats to keep your fanny planted when you blip the throttle on this bad doggie! Woohoooooo!

Matchgrde
12-13-2011, 09:08 PM
Could you give some specs on the wheels and tires (brand, size, offset, etc...). I'm making a wish list for my 67 and I am digging your setup. I will be using C5 brakes also.
Awesome car.

Rick Giles
12-14-2011, 06:52 AM
Yeah I love the look of the ole traditional smallblock too. Like the performance of the LS. This should run very well with fuel injection. The seats are going to be a problem although I'm not wanting to give up the original interior.
The engine is a 383ci with AFR 210 heads, hydraulic roller, forged bottom end with Callies splayed main caps, Holley Dominator engine management system, all Weldon products for fuel delivery.
The wheels are Fikse Profile 10, 18X9 front, 18X10 rear. Front tires 245's and rear is 275's. Going to switch rears to 295's and try 275's in the front. Probably going with BFG KDW's. The rear is a 9" and I can't remember the width. The offset that I have will probably be different from stock. The brakes are 2006 Z06. Don't know if this helps?

Thanks guys! I have also been a bigger fan of the 67's but I'm crazy about this car. Have never been a big fan of green either but this one has a fair amount of silver in it and it looks nostalgic. To add to that, gonna paint the engine block Chevy ORANGE!

Looking forward to the new stance......color, wheels, amazing! Are you staying with the Gold interior?

Rick Giles
02-26-2012, 12:58 PM
The stance is killing me right now. I'm running Hotchkis springs and don't know where the ride height is going to end up. Sure would like to buy a set of DSE or Ridetech coilovers. Would prefer DSE since I'm crazy about Kyle and Stacy and they also make a great product. Yes the gold interior is going to stay. This car is in a time warp. Everything I take apart is in such good shape. The interior is not perfect but it is in incredible shape for the year. Also have never seen this combo in another Chevelle.

Gorgeous!
I have always liked the 65-66 Chevelle styling, and man if yours doesn't look just right all the way around.
The twin turbo set up just sweetens the deal...

Rick Giles
09-18-2012, 05:50 PM
Couldn't take it anymore...had to pull the body off the frame. This was kind of scary and my bud didn't tell me till later that he was scared to death we were going to drop it!

Rick Giles
09-18-2012, 06:18 PM
Frame after using a whole roll of 80 grit on a d/a, some roloc discs on a die grinder and a hammer and chisel to knock off the weld slag and to smooth out imperfections. She is a true California frame without even a speck of surface rust! It was then blasted with 60 grit sand and powdercoated twice. Each time it had gloss black half baked then scuffed then clear. It looks like a black onyx!

Thanks for the compliments guys! The one in the background is a 67 SS/RS Camaro that I put on a rotisserie about 15 years ago with all new GM parts and it's matching #'s. Just can't bring myself to finish it. Just love working on the Chevelle.
The suspension is DSE's Speed Kit 3. Started on it and have a few hickups and trying to iron it all out. Stay tuned.

This is what it looked like when I got it, a one owner 67 with 283 & 2 speed powerglide:
65256

It still looks pretty much the same while I've been gathering the parts for the transformation, most notably the Schwartz Performance Chassis. It was from someone else's stalled project and ended up being about 1/2 price and cheaper than bolt-ons, It was already complete and ready to go:

This car absolutely rocks! I am a youngster (20) and relatively new to the protouring. Your twin turbo set up rocks and I have 71 Z28 that will hopefully end up being just like yours. I am upgrading my rear end to the Detroit Speed quadralink and possibly a 12 bolt (rather than the 10) and am trying to figure out whom to get my front suspension from. Any ideas? Working on a engineering college student budget rocks, let me tell you. My SBC 355 may not be able to handle the TT so i may upgrade that as well. Any ideas for that? I am getting the T56 magnum tranny too.

Camaroman1971 sounds like you have a great project! I had a 72 split bumper when I was 18 and sure would like to have it back. A stock 350 will take some boost as long as it doesn't detonate under a load. Going to send you a PM on the right person to contact for parts.

Thanks chadman27 and the dan!

I can't wait for you to finish it. ....so you can get bored of it. So I can add it to my R.G. collection.

So you can add it to the D.J. collection.:) I'm glad you like the Chevelle. I have only been working on it 3 years. Glad you are patient.

Sure would like to post more pictures. Can someone tell me how to do so when you have run out of space? How can I become a supporting member? I have emailed twice with no response.

Hey Rick, we've been wondering about updates. I use Photobucket to load all of my photos to and then you just link the image from there to post the pictures. Allows large images and doesn't use up any of your usable space. Photobucket is iffy sometimes so maybe some others can chime in on what they like to use.

Wow Tom, I started to email you but didn't want to bug you! I'm not sure how to use Photobucket. I know another forum, won't mention any names but they let you post tons of pictures. Same type of forum.

Your engine/turbo setup is EXACTLY what I want for my '66 El Camino...which already has a 383. You have a beautiful car, and I'm quite jealous! :)

This is from Goodguys Charlotte 2014 and it's Green Hornet's debut! Only took 5 years to get her there!

Hey Rick

You did a great job on your car. Did you use the 2" lowering springs from detroit speed. I have there front upper and lower control arms. trying
to decide to use the koni shocks are coil overs. How do you like the ride?

Rick Giles

Thanks, I used Detroit Speed's Speed kit III. It uses coilovers and they are adjustable. The ride is good although I have put only a few miles on it.

Selling the T56 complete with clutch, scatter shield, flywheel, and hydraulics out of this girl. Going with an upgraded Magnum. Transmission is in the classified section.

this Chevelle is amazing to say the least, but if I was doing it, I would have seam welded the underbody while it was on the rotisserie and after painting it, sprayed lizard skin ceramic and sound control. other than that it's perfect. good job!

Do you have any pictures of the exhaust routing from the turbo to under the car on the driver side?

Thanks for bumping this! Great looking '66! I have never seen one that color( Mine is Garnet, BTW). That car is probably one of the cleanest original Chevelles ever! Execution of everything is nice. I wonder what's going on with the car now? With all that available power, I'm surprised the frame wasn't boxed or any stiffeners added. I twinge at the thought of those OE 1/4 panels warping if it ever hooked up hard.
