I took my car out for the first time in about 8 months because I was installing multiple items non brake related. Installed TPI and Vintage Air setup. I took it for a short ride and stopped at a friends house while it idled. I went back in the car to drive away and all four brakes were locked up. I tried to drive it and the engine eventually could not overcome the 4 brakes.

I tried to roll the car and all 4 brakes are locked. I unhooked the master from the booster and all brakes unlocked. I am running C5 brakes all around with a C5 Booster and Master. Is this a booster issue? The brakes worked well for about a year. The booster was used when I bought it.

BTW. Once the brake pedal was pushed down. It stayed in the down position and would not come back up. The pedal was extremely hard with no movement.

Most times this will be something to do with your pushrod length. It's probably too long, and dragging the brakes slightly. They heat up and pressure builds and you get what you have.

On edit, if it happens again, crack a fitting on the master and relieve brake line pressure and you'll likely be able to move again.

I checked it out the next day and pulling the vacuum hose off of the booster unlocked the brakes. I started it up, hooked up the vacuum hose and hit the brakes a few times and they locked up again.

Since the booster is 10+ years old, I am going to replace for peace of mind. Also, how do I check the length to see if it is correct. I thought it was since it was the same length as the original booster off of the car. Also, I was able to use the car all of last year without this ever happening to me before.

-Thanks

Replaced the booster with a new booster. The new booster pushrod was out a little further than the old booster. I adjusted my brake switch and put a spacer between the booster bracket and the firewall and the new booster pushrod length was perfect. Took it out for a test ride and all is good again.
