part of my problem with the clutch started with the linkage, and ive traced it down to the piviot ball came unclipped from the clutch fork. is there anyway to lock this together? did i possibly have the piviot ball screwed in too far/not far enough? or was this just a weird bad luck thing. thanks for the help.

Was your clutch fork new? Those clips can become weak over time. If it's a standard GM fork Jeg's sells replacements and trust me the clip on that thing is stiff!

Regardless of the placement of the pivot ball, the clips should hold the fork nice-n-tight.

One thing you might want to look into is the fact that GM has three different height pivot balls and three different TO heights. One works with its mate and if missmatched can cause problems like what you have described.

I dont have the numbers in front of me, but I will try and post the height differences and their respective mates for proper operation.

Working on top of what chicane67 stated (which makes excellent sense), check out the following URL. Go to the section titled "GM Clutch Release Bearings". Also check out the section titled "Release Arm Pivot" which states "It is very important to use the correct style of pivot in relation to the type of arm being used."
