Hey Guys, just got the Nova in the driveway after a long trip from Arizona to France!!

Here is a couple pics, did a few quick needed mods, changed the seats, modded the wiper motor to a junk yard special works great cost next to nothing. Thinking about a center consol, something light to look at not to bulky, I have a billet pistol grip in order to top of the quick silver shifter!

Some engine dressing and carb jetting for power actually jetted for economy:(

More pics to follow just wanted to start a theread!

any idea for hood scoop??

Its right up my alley! Looks killer with the painted bumpers. I would through a 2" cowl hood on it myself.

Any info on the paint? I like it and I like the Soft 8's too.

Hi Guys thanks for the kind words, the guy I baught the car from told me it was hotrod grey? Looks to me to be a mercedes charcoal with flatener. I do like the soft eight myself, the only thing is I wanted to go staggered and they don't make them over 17" :(

I'll throw some wider tires in the back, Cragar certified i could go up to 275 I have 245 right now.

I'm in the process of building my own watt link, still measuring and gathering parts, should be a fun feature as the rear end on those cars is so visible.

I thaught about the cowl hood, I like it but still think about something one off or two little scoops like the Mopar had on the duster? I still need to photoshop and post for comments.

Keep looking for updates, I do a bit everyday after long days of work !!

Whao I didn't expect such good comments! thanks guys, Waiting for parts as usual, lost some during transport:(

Ron those seats are good looking on pictures the way I baught them, thaught the back of them was dark grey, well not!! but the feal is good, lil' tight on the legs but comfy and efficient for a toy car not for show car

I just drop a old edelbrock torkerI intake to be glass beaded to hopefully get a lil more grunt over the stock one ?

Got the drop spindles waiting on tutbular control arms to swap the entire front end out. for better handling but not so bad as it is now.

Got a nascar carbon fiber filter cover wich will breath trough the firewall and some nice valve covers wich I keep secret nothing secret but I think it'll lok good under there.

And after that let's hit the local track and friday night runs!! Bye Bye peugeot!!!

Cheers

They look like the same ones I have. I love mine. They are very comfy on long rides and worked well at RTTS. For the price I paid I really can't complain esspecially since I need 4 of them.

Great start for a new project! The car has a nice aggressive look to it. A cowl hood is always a good choice for a Nova, but why not be different and a little more aggressive like a Hemi Dodge scoop? It would compliment the already pit-bull like attitude the car has. sc102 here...

http://up22.com/scoopw1.htm#SC-102

A nice satin black stripe of some sort along the side would really add to the look.

Keep us updated!

Thanks guys, I better get to work with all you watching it!

I wanted to go for a scoop as the car looks good but a bit plain.
I thaught about the bomber like paint scheme (a bit too much)
I thaught about the Yenko stripe ( guess to vintage for the look it has already.)

I may go for a a hockey stripe along the sides or maybe a superbee style stripe with Mr Horsepower Duck?

I'll have to do a lil' photoshop to figure it out.

I do like the plain look of the hood, but my wife and I feel like there is something that needs to be done to the car to make it stand out but we can't point out what it is missing.
Any Ideas??

Do think I need to lower it first and go from there.

Keep the comments going it motivatesme even harder. I'm attempting a show in October for the 100th Bday of Chevrolet , BETTER GET CRACKING!!

Did modded the turn signal to be easier to grab and suited to the wheel, then here come the headache ( 4 hours 4 fuses before given up) try to wire the wiper switch to my new motor, seems that the switch tends to fail and "connects 1 and 2 position at the same time when on two (hope this is clear??) then blow the fuse:(
Going to find a three way switch and be done with it!

From this to this:

Thanks for the kind words! I live in Normandy (Le Havre), born and raised there, then spent about ten years in Atalnta GA where i did got bit by the muscle car bug and now back to France assisting frenchs to import cars and my new service is to order parts for them when needed. Coll job, it keeps me close to the beloved USA and I get to see or drive some cars that I would never been able to buy!

The rear strip is growing on me to, I may have it made in decal so it can be easier to remove.

As for the hood, couple ideas came to my mind, like the SS hood, or the 2" cowl, or maybe a Cobra Jet like scoop. Will see.

Camaro front chin in the making, and finished once lowered, and a bunch of small details that you don't think of doing until you move or take off parts!!!

Will look into the hood suggestion you gave me and see if manageable.

Go for this hood, it's easy (but expensive). Just buy a Viper hood, cut it up, and have someone mold it to a fiberglass Nova hood. No one in the world will have one like yours, on a Nova anyway...

This hood is hot, but a bit to modern for what I'm after, your car is going to be amazing once but already hot as it is, I might look for some type of louvers ala 396 SS or some similar. Don't want to go too far, as First in a budget, then it is a stealth look so got to respect that.

Thanks for the comments

Now got to paint the Eddy Torker I manifold so I can make that engine a bit more powerfull and better looking!

Wanted to go with either truck link or three link for the rear, cause it sits too high and would need 3" block :( not good; what are the good set ups out there? Need to see a few to figure if I can build from scratch. Also any pro and cons are welcome

Well couple days off work for the French independance day!! Good some time to tinker some!

Swapped the stock A arms for tubulars, 2" CPP drop spindles ( 2.5" in reality) :):::))) cleaned up a bit and had to take the inner fenders off to get my tires to clear, tomorrow will be the rear some about two inches also

Love the stance of the tires in the fenders totally changed the front of the car, didn' t ride in it yet :(

Here are some pics, enjoy!

Also backed the front bumper about a full inch back, don't look too bad I think, much better than it use to be.

Thanks, coming from you is always a pleasue, as for the bracket, I had only the two on the subframe, looseen one, took the bolt off, then place the bumper where wanted and punch two holes in the mid range of the adjustment slots, the same on the other side and Voila, the over hang o the fender ain't to bad compare to the effect it does on the overall look of the car , will try to shoot a picture of the entire car tomorrow.

Are you going to put a idler where the belt is wrapped around that bolt on the right of the picture? It looks like it would work without it, and actually wrap more of the alt. pulley.

You can get belts to length at any parts store, just measure and tell them the size you need.

LOL, I forgot to explain a bit before posting, the belt will go straight to the alternator from the PS pulley it was just to get the belt to stay for the picture!

I wish our French part stores had the third of an old NAPA or Autozone, I have a line for a smaller one of a french car to make servicing or replacement easier and work around it.

Well! Time for updates, been busy this week end working on the inner fenders and painted clean up a bit too, lots of it don't show but in person it his a lot cleaner than before.

I'll let the pictures show what I did

Added some 1.5 inch lowering blocks I made with some 1/4" rectangular tubing I had laying around, just a bit lower but not a big fan of blocks!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/07/22072011489-1.jpg

Then the inners! painfull work on measuring for clearance, making then easy for removal and such thing, going to have the heater hardlined to the back of the passenger side inner and run the heater hoses from there to the block! No need to pull them out for engine removal!!
Also mocked up out of fab paper the new blower "funnel" on the firewall, going to bend some sheets tomorrow (Grin)

Well i wish I knew, as I would like to repaint it in the future the paint itself is nice ( Mercedes Charcoal grey with flatener mix, the black is satin black) but the body work needs some sanding to be perfect. The seller had the car painted about two years ago. Sorry for the lack of help!

Time for updates, got my rear seat cover back from our local interior guy, price was right and the chosen "faux" alcantara don't look out of place in my opinion, probably going to have some of the same material on the door panels like an insert or along the top of the existing panel, built a quick switch panel for start button and a couple of toggle switches for fan override, trans lock, and two pre wired ones in case I need one or two for things I'm not thinking until the day I wished I had an extra ( my brain farts quite a bit !).
And finally a picture of the real stance without photoshop!
I think it still needs to be lower on the rear a bit, what do you think?

Is that a functional filler cap up there on the sail panel?

Yep, fonctionnal and works great, just replaced the rusting steel screws with some stainless ones and added an oring around the back so it seals great now

This car has a lot of cool features, just need some finess to finish it up, I can not wait on the trans fluid I ordered so I can move it to a more level ground to finally have a good look at the stance.

Yep, you are right, I hate blocks, I'll do a few mods to the shackles, and maybe torch the springs right at the front eye to had a bit, then one day will be a complete custom rear end

I'm more and more looking into an E39 IRS rear sub to adapt the width is good, just need one to figure how to attached the spings to the nova frame.

Will see if the budget allows!

O' Boy was that thread deep under all you guys new projects and updates!!

Been gone for a couple great days away from home with Honey and kids, now back to the garage or should I say driveway?

Did a couple more things on the Nova, getting closer to completion (well until some more ideas pops)

Redone the shifter arm to suit the knob I got for the car from UPR, got to say, I used them before on Mustangs they do have a great quality and CS is great to boot. Fabbed up a new gas pedal, fits better and finally open the throttle all the way!!! Fitted the carbon fiber pedals.
And gave a try to the valve cover to see what it would look once done! Motivation is important after laying in the sun on the beach for a couple days!
Also finally figured the belt pulley and routing, tensionning is solved too.
Installed the battery in the trunk using the cables of a E39 those clamps are great! But what a PIA to get it off the donor! Worth it !!! and ten bucks to boot, cheapest relocator kit I have found so far.
Also started to work on filling the holes in the rear bumper previously done, one done one to go, Happened to find out while around the bumpers bolts, it were a trailer hitch on this car in the past, two half inch thick plates still on the frame!!! Got to grind that crap out, I guess I can save another 2-3 pounds!
I'll let the pictures talk!

I say go ahead and drop it 2 inches and put some more rubber on the back wheel, and it should do you well

Sweet Nova love the color and that stance would be nailed if it was just that little bit lower in the back.. look forward to seeing how you modify it

Thanks for the kind words guys! I know it needs to come down on the rear but I'm barelly scraping the headers flanges right now and I go lower then ??? It 'll scrape! Will try to lower with something I can take back just to test on the backroads I play on and go from there.
Randy, anytime you are ready and I'll take you to the shop we went, where the merc is!

I think, it would not affect the height for the header much if you drop the back. down, maybe a half of inch difference at the most!! But I think if you propose the question to on the exhaust forum with a photo of your car, they will be able to help you more. Cool, but I am more interested in Nova Ben

Hi Guys, going to look into lowering the back a bit more going to have the front eye of the leafs bent to lower it a bit more and make enough room for the side exhaust. here are a few more shot of the Beast, Enjoy!

Nothing special about the turn signal, just sprayed them with black clear, they were fadded orange so I had to do something. I'm currently working onthe rear taillights will show once the prototype will be made.

Thanks for the good words

Hi Randy! Would love too but hurted my wrist pretty badly so the nova is not doing much , the wife car broke down, another car I have to prepare its new owner, well quite a bit on my plate lately, will see what can be done! I made a protoype tailight, and ordered a few other things for it too!!

The show is on all week end 15th 16th of october Le Bourget, nothing like SEMA but a cool show getting bigger with US cars :)

Will I see you there?

Hi Randy, did got the your message but the people there kept me busy as H""l! The show went super well, the Nova was a big hit for the only few ones that recognize the car! Got a couple offers for it but not sure if I want to sell it, it rides awesome, handles great for what has been done so far! Rode over 200 km/h for over 3-4 km and the handling was awesome!
Will get a chance to mmet up sometime!
Have a good one

BEN

Ok, thats cool!!! I am excited for you because the show worked out great for you. And you brought it up to 200 km/h and it was smooth, that is pretty cool!!, Did the engine have a lot more power in it or was it high revving??

The time I brought my 68 up too 155km/h I thought the engine was going to blow... it was so loud. Plus it didn't handle well and didn't like to stop so, it became a cruiser until I started with my "minor upgrades"

Been awhile since I updated, got some new rubber installed in the rear 275/40/17 Good year! They are fitted on 8" wide rim making the tires swell over the rim, looks good but's rubs a bit in the fender wells.

What would you advise for a "rolling", the inner fender lips?

Also got the carb tuned a bit better than before, went for one step above the stock Edelbrock settings, the car runs smother, cooler, and throttle response is a lot snappier. Can spin the tires in third now!!!

I'll try to shoot some pics if the weather let's me!

Cheers!

bringing it back....you can just trim the edges but i bet its rubbing a bit higher up. Also up high on the inside.

Hey, I know you were thinking of stripes....how about Yenko stripes in gloss black???

Hi, thanks for shimming in, the roblem is that it doesn't rub on the fender lip but a bit higher in right where the "flair" starts, I took my wheels to a good welder and the idea is to move the hoops inward about 1/2 inch and reweld them. This is the cheapest way for me know that I can think of.
As for the stripes, I did a PS of them on the car but not a big fan of them especially on the trunk part.
Will see, as I have an offer on the car, that I may not refuse??

rfalker1

I like the strips ben!!, what if you just didn't do the strips on the trunk but did the rest of the strips on the side of the car?

Hotwhilz
02-22-2012, 12:10 AM
I do like the side stripes, but for now I don't do anything on the car beside making it even more reliable, I may have a buyer for the car so no $$ will be spent until then!

Hi Randy, selling caus e I have to :(
Planning on a Camaro or Impala, amybe a truck? Will see what comes up once I have the Nova sold! I'm having fun building them, then I get other ideas on other cars!!! It's a sickness!!

Hotwhilz

Think it was time to update a bit on the car, did the final tune and fixed a few bugs, got an offer today for the car I couldn't refuse, it is going to a good home and getting some three piece wheels in a few weeks bye the new owner.

So foe the fun side, I'm in the look for another project, if you have anything, let me know, I'm not stopped on a type of car, just a project that needs finishing or something? Let's see what you got!
