Hi
I just bought a 51 chevy truck with an ls1 motor swap. The truck has 8 inch wheels in the back and i want to run 10-12 inch wide wheels. A shop here in Houston wants to charge me $5000-6000 to do the mini tub using regular barrel tubs. Is that about right for a mini tub in a truck? The bed has wood which is in great condition btw.

I'd love to do it my self but the apartment complex management may not like it :)

That's a bit much,especially on a truck

Does that come with a 4bar or similar suspension installed? If not it seems high.

what's an acceptable price to pay for such job?

definitely sounds high. I would assume the frame rails won't need narrowed for that. If it's just tubbing and redoing the wood to match up. I would personally charge around 1000 to 1500. If it was a frame narrowing and suspension reocate it would be a 1000 more. Which I would do on a chassis table to ensure straightness. Are they repainting the inner and trimming the wood? We have a local guy that charges 150 a point for roll cage work. I charge 100 and it's tigged also. I would check around some more in the area if I was you. I don't have any overhead cost like insurance and stuff to absorb is why I am cheaper.

this quote is without narrowing the frame, just tubbing and trimming the two pieces of wood on each side. I will contact a few more shops next week and see what they charge.

definitely price around. I finish the metal and have it ready for repaint if not repainted for the 1000 to 1500 range

Can you email me the shop you went to? That way I can help point you in different locations for better pricing?

I minitubbed mine and it was no where near that kind of money. You can't really go too wide or you hit the frame, so all that really needs to happen is a 3" extension in the bed side. Its really quite elementary. PM me for me details if ya like. If you are trying to go crazy, you would notch the frame rails, again, pretty simple.
