Not putting a 5.3 into anything but rather just picked up an '07 Suburban w/ the 5.3 and looking to get a little more out of it and was wondering how restrictive the factory exhaust manifolds are and if it would benefit from a set of shorty headers.

The same exhaust is used on the 6.0s, so unless you're adding a cam and really spinning that motor, you probably wont see much difference.

Your money will be much better spent on a good tune, removing torque management. Night & day difference.

I did 3 things on my 5.3 Suburban that really made it wake up: Cat back exhaust to uncork it, Cold air intake (best bang for the $), and a tune. About $700 total.

Edge will do. Gas mileage I never measured before and after, but logically if the motor makes more power easier you get into it less (unless you like to leadfoot it) and you can save on gas mileage.

although not as simple as bolt-on stuff, why not consider changing to an LS1 cam and running 6.0 rocker arms? That alone should be worth a ton of power. That, and find a used LS1 intake and swap them out. Honestly, if you can tackle changing exhaust manifolds, you could do both of those installs.
