Awesome story and I too love the F40 (and I'm not a big Ferrari guy). I would rather drive have an F40 than any of the other ultra exotics.
I have seen a few on the street often near Sebring, Petit Le Mans, or the USGP but never being driving hard. It is awesome that someone was pushing the car and a real treat to be in the passenger seat.
The last F40 I remember seeing on the street was at the Indy F1 race, Robert (RS Customs) and I were driving in and Robert mentioned something to the effect of "whats that in the rearview??? an F40?" So we slow down and ended up following him in. The funniest part was a 360 Stradale pulled out in traffic and slowed down to admire the F40 as well lol

There is one in Dallas (which I've actually found for sale) that was at Cars & Coffee back in April. Figuring it was a pretty small world I asked the driver of the ride-along car if he knew the Dallas car and he did.
Here's some shots of the local car. Drool!!!

When I first started at GM in the early 90's our VP at the time (Chuck Jordan) owned one and would routinely drive it into work. We would always head out to the Executive Garage to check it out. BAD ASS CAR. A timeless design that will always be cool.
