Wow.
Get back to work Euro and import trash. You've just been sent packin... by a production, showroom chassis with added weight.

That is just amazing.
I got the opportunity to run the Nurburgring about 20 years ago and those blind corners are even worse in person. The speed you have to carry in the corners to run that time is just crazy, especially when you consider how long it will take for an emergency crew to reach you if you end up in the barrier. Back when I ran it, it took many laps to learn the place. Now, I understand that the racing simulators are so realistic that you can essentially learn the course before you go.
It should be on everyones bucket list.

I wonder how the Viper will come out with this bar set....Here ya go..........
Chevrolet recently returned to the Germany to send its updated 2012 Corvette ZR1 around the 12.9 mile Nordschleife, emerging with an improved lap time of 7 minutes 19.63 seconds. That mark is one of the fastest ever for a production car, besting even the Dodge Viper ACR.
As was the case with the ZR1’s previous Nurburgring run, the latest lap time was set with a bone stock car with no performance modification. Corvette engineer Jim Mero was behind the wheel for the 7 minute 19.63 second run.

That record is over 2 years old though,
7:22.1 / 2009 Dodge Viper ACR / Tom Coronel / 18 August 2008 / Chrysler and Motor Trend conducted test.
The Viper is being redesigned in the coming year. I'm sure with this information, they'll be working.

As with most of the factory results that come back from the ring I gotta call BS. Hanging 1.7g in a stock Corvette? Right, I'll file that right next to the ZR1 prototype that they claimed was preproduction and exactly as planned production other than the cage.....and no AC......and racing seats instead of power leather.....and whatever else they forgot to mention.
Whenever any company claims a time at the ring I put about as much faith in it as I would a pastor picking what day the world is gonna end.

I think 1.7 peak G's is a lot different than pulling 1.1 on a skid pad... I feel like it is definitely possible. The car being tested was running Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Tim, Keep in mind that 1.7 wasn't a sustained number...it was peaks, and seeing the number hanging around 1.1g-1.3g for the majority of those corners...I'd say it was possible. Still pretty amazing no matter if you're a fan of the Corvette or not.
