We started shooting color on my Nova last Thursday. I spent 9 hours at the shop on Thursday, 14 hours on Friday, and 8 hours today. It's finally all painted, and cleared. I laid out all of the strips and airbrushed all of the graphics myself. I spent all 14 hours in the paint booth Friday doing the graphics. Today was spent fixing all of the little mistakes with the stripes, graphics, and base coats.
The hood should be finished up tomorrow. The hood had a couple hairline cracks that didn't show up until he started spaying on the color. Fiberglass hoods are a pain.
The interior had already been painted as well as all of the jams. They should spend the next week or two color sanding and buffing both the interior and exterior.
Next it will come home for wiring and then back out for interior. I may get it done this year.
Here are a few pics.

Wow, that's as good as it gets. I bet the body/paint costs would have set you back at least 15-20k if done in a shop with no work by you. That is already the nicest Nova I have ever seen, and it's still not all together yet!

HOLY SMOKES.. that is sweet, i was just noticing the cage molded into the dash, i bet theres a ton of little things like that you can't see in pictures, i bet in person that car is awsome. i was also noticing you had the car masked to the floor. why would you wanna do that in a down draft booth? i've never tried that what are the advantages?

That looks sick. Your front bumper turned out soo nice. I remember when you built that and had quite a bit of time into it. The paint scheme is just incredible. I like the yellow/ black separated by the orange line. I really like how you ran it into the jams too. Its the little extra attention to detail that really helps cars get noticed. :icon996:
Still staring at the detailed air brush work!

Looks fantastic.
The final color scheme looks modern and timeless. I've never been too fond of the molded rear spoiler, but the dark color tones it down and makes it work.
I can't wait to see it on all fours.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I understand that everything on the car isn't going to appeal to everyone but I was hoping there was something on the car to appeal to almost everone.
The colors are midnight blue pearlcoat from a new Chrysler 300C and the yellow is competition yellow from a late model Chevy Monte Carlo. The orange is Hugger orange.
As far as taping the paper to the floor, when spraying the rockers, the paper would blow up and overspray would get on the under side of the car, engine, suspension, etc. All of that is painted with the same yellow or polished aluminum. Even when we painted the blue, the dust from the blue still came up under the paper and landed on the lips of the spoiler and the bumpers. Unfortunately the guy that sprayed on the base clear didn't tac off the car and we had to respray the yellow from the bodyline down. It didn't add too much time to the painting but we weren't going to let that happen again.
I undersand about the rear spoiler. I had drawn up some sketches doing something different with the paint on the spoiler and it just stood out too much and didn't look good.
My friend was trying to talk me out of painting the car two tone with the graphics. He thinks that too many people will focus on the paint and won't notice all of the other stuff. This friend is one of those that likes cool cars but doesn't understand what makes them cool. He loves cars like Checayne and Sick Fish but has now clue what is in them.
Anyway, thanks everyone for the compliments and I'll try to add more pictures with it on the wheels outside. They were going to roll it outside sometime today. I hope they at least take a picture and send it to me.
Later,
Dennis

Thanks for the compliments. I went to my first Goodguys show about 4 years ago and loved the street rods. For beter or worse, that's when the Nova took a slightly different approach.
As far as the engine, it is a 427 bored .070 with 10:1 and a solid roller Comp Cam. It has an Accel SuperRam EFI system. When I get it back I hope to get the wiring done soon so I can finally hear what it sounds like.
The body shop pushed it outside today and took a few pics. He sent these to my work today. Now how did he expect me to get anything else done for the rest of the day.
Later.
