View Full Version : Isis wiring dilemma

I am getting all my ducks in a row to begin my wiring journey. I am wanting to eliminate as many relays as possible for convenience and costmetic reasons. I am installing the Isis system and am torn as whether to use the power cells to do this function in all the usual relay places or just suck it up and wire relays. Needless to say I bought the system to simplify wiring. I know some have used the power cells in soft start mode for headlights, cooling fans, etc and want some real world feedback as to whether that has worked out fine or been a problem. Let me know what you think.:hmm:
PS am using H4 headlights, ron davis 2 fans drawing up to 25 amps each as per them.

It doesn't work fine. It works great! I used the ISIS kit on an LS3/4L80 69 Camaro with electric fans, A/C, headlight covers, halogen headlights, power windows, power locks, electric fuel pump, custom interior lighting, etc. I used two relays on the entire car (for the power locks, and only because the inMotion controller didn't have enough circuits).

Soft starting the fans works great... without the soft start, they would blow the 25A fuses. With the soft start, no worries, and I've tested the car extensively. I also used the inMotion controller to directly run the DSE electric headlight covers -- I didn't use the DSE controller. I also used the ISIS kit to control the A/C compressor and the heater control valve. The ECU sends the signal to the MasterCell, and PowerCell drives those devices.

John - so you inverted the signals with a relay on each to ground each of the ISIS inputs? I have a Speartech harness which incorporates the ECU driven fuel pump and fan relays. For packaging purposes I'd like to power each directly from the PowerCells but like the idea of the ECU deciding when they need to turn on/off.

Thanks,
Gregg

Gregg,
In my case, both inputs were ground signals so it was easy to hook it up. But if not, as you mention, then a relay can be used to take a 12V signal and make it a ground signal.

Hey Guys,

We have a new little board that we'll be offering soon that would eliminate the need to wire in a relay to flip a 12-volt signal to a ground. It is a little PCB that is about 0.25" X 0.60". You solder the MASTERCELL input wire and a ground to one end. You solder the 12-volt switched wire to the other end. After that you heat-shrink the whole thing and bundle it up in your loom. Far easier than relays.

Thanks John. What ECU/system were you running? Unfortunately these ones appear to be positive switched.

Cheers!

Jay - define "soon" lol. Could do with a few of those puppies like now :-) Started installing the system on Sunday. Thinking about doing the fan and fuel pump signals from the ECU plus debating if I should hack up the internals of the push start button (Infinity) or run 3 separate mini-relays to be able to use the built-in status lights (on, acc, ign). If I could package those relay functions up real small - that would be awesome! I have a couple other things I need so email coming your way tonight bud.

I'm finally getting my stuff wired up and need to know if my signals from my Accel Gen 7 ECU will be ground or +volts....esp for fan controls...ok everything else too...ac turn off...etc. Anyone? Contacting Accel is a major PITA

I first heard about those from Jay around a month ago, but haven't heard anything since. ALlthough he did send me some things in the mail that sound similar, but I may have misunderstood him when he told me what he was sending. They're still sitting in the packaging. They are about the right size.

I just haven't started my wiring at all, so everything is still in collect mode. I'm still waiting for my mimod to get back after they have had it for 2 months for a software update and some help on wiring the camera.
