Ok I have an Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser wagon. It is a full frame car. Now I want the car to sit lower than it is. I have had it lower and it was on the bumpstops in the front. The ride wasn't bad but handled like crap, so I raised it back up. So I had the idea to simply take out all the rubber body mounts and sit the body right on the frame. Maybe not as easy as it seems. But it would give me a nice drop of an inch or so without effecting the handling. I realize the ride may be more harsh. Just not sure how harsh. And if I ever went with a cage I would at the very least need solid body mounts. So why not just mount it direct? Any info, opinions, or help anyone can provide would be welcome. Thanx.

I was thinking of doing the same thing to my car, i'm thinking it should not be to difficult other then any hard line fuel, brake and steering shaft modifications and bumper to frame mount drops not to much work involved, also not sure about trans tunnel clearance? i was thinkign about welding two washers to the frame inplace of the body bushing. Good point about ride quality not sure what differance it would make im also interested in any feedback from anyone running no or solid body mounts on the street.

Ride quality shouldn't be any different than with solid body mounts. I think the trans tunnel is going to be the biggest problem. I have been thinking about this as well. I am sure the pinch weld where the firewall and floor come together will have to go. Latenight72 made up some solid mounts and kept them about 3/4 the original height he said that was about as low as you could go with out interference problems. Another place that will be problematic is the shift rod for a column shift and shift rods and levers on any thing but a top loader style manual.

Don't forget the bumpers are usually mounted to frame,so that would have to be addressed as well as fan and shroud clearance if it has stock clutch/fan/shroud. As for the ride, it shouldn't change any.

Hood clearance? Steering column/header clearance? Exhaust/floor pan clearance? Core support/radiator modifications necessary?

It actually crushed them from riding on them. I am going to have to evaluate things. But at the moment I think things will just stay as they are. The suspension is well sorted out so I should be satified and work on things that better need my attention.
