I'm a newbie here but not really...I first found out about Pro-touring.com about 11years ago & I'm finally in a position to complete a project of my very own completely through. I'm building a '69 GTO & it should be done in a few months which I'm very excited about!!!
I also wanted to say welcome Goldberg!!! Having you build your sicka%# Pro-touring Trans am, only motivates me more on my own project build! Thank you for posting & like everyone else who has posted, we all can't wait to see all the stages from here of your amazing beast! Thx A.J.

Vinnie, Brent, Telly,,,, thanks guys this is all new and having people recognize the effort this early on makes it pretty darn special indeed....

The good news is that all the individuals that surround me make it look like its fairly easy,,, and that their front line efforts have resulted in really good fitting quality parts in what has been released to date as Beta parts is way off the charts.... Thanks to Mike (Pablo), Mike (Coop), and Austin for their hard work in preparing the cool parts we all love.....

The company is new,,, and I'll attempt to continue to meet others expectations when they order product as I tend to be somewhat of a compulsive personality that doesn't want you to receive anything I wouldn't want to receive myself....
Thanks again guys....
Albert

So once the car is finished, I vote that Goldberg and Joe Rogan battle it out on the pavement with their respective Trans Am and Cuda. A tie breaker in the octagon if required.

For those not in "the know", Rogan is a practicing MMA guy in addition to calling the fights for the UFC. I think Bill has an extreme height and weight advantage, but I'll put my money on the MMA guy every time. Come on, this is all in good fun.

Someone go sign up Rogan to this site, he's got a bet waiting. :)

Should the shootout be BullRun style which Bill is very familiar with, or Battle of the Supercars style with host Lee Reherman keeping Bill and Joe at arms length?

Regardless, Bill, glad to have you around.

Of course you would. That Cuda (while awesome in its own way) is a show car with 22's on it and 600 hp and an auto trans. Weak sauce against the Goldberg pro touring thunder machine!

Demented Customs busy? Try Skrapes car, Joba Chamberlin's,Michael Strahan's,"Uncle Louis" Fat Boy's Caddy......and MY Blazer!!!!! I'd say they're busy!!!

Bill,

I recommend flipping the rear shocks so the lines are up top and the rebound adjuster is on the bottom where you can just reach under the car and adjust. This also allows you to pop a couple holes in the trunk floor and mount the remote canisters in the trunk for even easier access.

Overall looking great and will put this on my list of cars I want to flog

Unfortunately, the Executive Producers of BULLRUN were more concerned with getting people involved in their rally ($18k-$20k entry fee) than they were producing a top quality show. I'm working with Conrad Ricketts (Extreme Makeover Exec. Producer) and my partner Matt Kutcher (spectrumspecialeffects) on developing a top notch, gearhead minded reality series. Hey Bill,
What are the wheel/tire specs on that thing? Does it see track time wearing those 'shoes'? Do tell!

From the size of the wheels and the way the exhaust is set up it looks like an old SCCA racer.

You are correct ! Ron Kirby drove the car during the early days. Back story is as follows........

Back in the day when I lived within spitting distance of Bill and Ernie Elliot's shop, I had a "70 Challenger(see below) that I used to rip up and down their runway (before I blew the motor). For a 2-3 yr. period, I was an occasional witness to the restoration of this killer car. I drooled at the work they performed. One day I get a flyer for the upcoming Barrett Jackson auction, and low and behold...........the same 1970 Z28 appears. I immediately got on the phone to the person most responsible for the restoration and the questions started to fly. Long story short, my friend (and local legend) Bob Johnson was present at the auction and purchased the car on my behalf. The previous owner was/is quite a racer himself. Gary Bennett, who many of you know from Barrett Jackson, is that man. This car is his love and I've sworn that one day he may buy the car back.
I've had this baby for years and have only hit the track with it once (though that one time was at the Coronado Festival of Speed). After a complete restoration by some of the best in the business, I originally chose not to drive the car. You will be glad to know I've seen the light and have now decided to let 'er breathe!! Hopefully I can get to Willow Springs the 16th........

OK, no offense but the Challenger isn't much for lefts and rights. I did the quarter mile thing twice. Not to fun being on the track 10-11 seconds at a time and then waiting forever to go again.

Just my opinion........ but being on the track 20-25 minutes at a time beats the hell out of quarter mile runs.

Once again, never mind me............sometimes I cant keep my thoughts to myself, lol.

The only time I turned the Challenger left or right was at the Elliot's runway. It was an awesome experience. Obviously the Z-28's hitting the track. To each his own I suppose. I like just about anything that has a roll bar and a harness that hauls ass.

Never mind me......... I never keep my thoughts to myself

By the way, this car is a 1963 Dodge 330 factory aluminum lightweight pushbutton automatic that I've also run. Kinda awesome experience in it's own right pushing buttons ripping down the track. But granted it's different.

Peace...

I seem to remember a little something about these cars. Push button shifting must have been a hoot, lol.

Didn't they start putting hemi's in them around 1965 or so? If I remember correctly, they were even the car to beat right off the show room floor?

That car certainly is a sweet piece of history.

The build's progress can be directly related to my wonderful sponsors for stepping up. Whether it be with product or direction, I'm blessed with an unbelievable team. BUT, the true credit goes to James and his sons at DEMENTED CUSTOMS. These cars are a handful to build, and with cars lining up (Michael Strahan, Steve Austin, Brad Penny, etc.), it's been hectic at his shop to say the least. He's put everything on hold to get "ERNREE" done and delivered. Plan is shoot the car out to Hendrick Motorsports for dry sump install and engine tune then off to DSE for suspension tuning, etc. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

What's funny is I remember that 70 TA from years back (2005 maybe) when we were discussing it on Performance Years. You ever poke around over there? Albert & several other Pro-Touring members post there as well.
http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=437

Sorry to hear it wasn't a real RAIV :( Did you get PHS done for that car? What about the SD? BTW, if you do still want a real 1970 RAIV to complete a kick ass bookend pair with your 1973 SD LMK & I'll put you in touch with Matt or Bill. 99% of those cars are never advertised when they change hands & those guys know where all 88 of them are. Well, most of them anyway..... :)

I do have a question for you about induction & the shaker. What do you plan do with all that? Are you going to mount the shaker to the hood or engine? Is it going to be functional or cosmetic? I really want to see what your plan is on this. I'm currently building a 1970 TA as well with a LS1 & not real sure what to do... I want the shaker functional & mounted to the engine but don't know an easy way to accomplish it. Year One makes EXACTLY what I want but they use them on their Bandit cars & won't sell me one

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/09/3123829938_e8400fcb8c-1.jpg

so I may have to fab something like this:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/09/3099662288_fdc7216154-1.jpg

Keep the updates coming & I'm pumped to see more of these 70-73 birds getting some spotlight :)

It is what it is.
As far as the scoop is concerned, as much as I'd like to help, Hendricks Motorsports is handling the shaker and I won't know it's final construction until the car heads over to their shop next week.

Love the rendering and wonderig how to obtain one for my 1978 T/A Pro Touring Project.

I own a collection of cars, see www.theburtcollection.com - recently finished a 1951 Allard J2 restoration - now moving to the 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2. Our guys have finished a wide variety of cars for the collection - such as a 1978 280 Z and we are finishing a 2003 S6 Avant (Audi). I own a 1979 T/A with only 400 factory miles - but, of course, cant justify driving it. So, we bought a 78 T/A to convert to a pro touring - seems we all have a similar idea - and need mucho advise on what exactly is the best suspension, interior, etc. I'f like to use a LS3 - nothing too crazy. 400 HP or so should move her down the road nicely. The donor car is gold - no T-tops - auto. I'm not 18 anymore, and this should do. But I'd like her lowered - but want to maintain the snowflakes (or at least the look of snowflakes). Also want a killer stereo.

With 170 cars in the collection, they call cant be driven adequately - but this one is an old flame - and a dream for many years. Our team is anxious to get started. We did post pics of the car on our Blog at
http://www.theburtcollection.com - so please take a look and jump into the fray with your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks again. - Paul

Bill, I know you probably posted it already, but who makes those hood latches? Seeing it all painted and together, those latches have me interested.

I have a set on order for mine....they come in black, white and CF look - in both locking or non-lock styles.

I need to know how the Shaker was done!!! I'm about to do a 81 LS3 build and want to keep the Shaker with the LS. Is there a 4 barrel with a throttle body under there or???
Thanks.....

There is a custom tub with a flat air filter and a tube that runs around the front and enters the throttle body. Here is how the one in my GTO is set-up:

Any doubts this car is for real was put to rest at the 2011 OUSCI. Wanda ran the snot out of it and did very well in her first PT style event. It was great to watch Bill host the show while she beat on the T/A. You could tell who was having the most fun..haha

Special thanks to all the sponsors that made my wife's participation in this years OUSI possible....the car performed like a champ!!!...Great event that we were honored to be a part of. I said this at the Pro-Touring dinner, "Parts provided by the sponsors are the best in the business rivaled only by the people behind them." We are truly honored to be involved.

I must also say that I am very proud of my wife!!!!!!

BTW... Already got my thinking cap on for another build.......this time for ME!!!!!!!!

Here's a shot of the team at Hendrick Motorsports prior to the event......

Now would be a great time to thank all of our sponsors.....Firstly, Billy Howell.....what can I say but THANKS BIG GUY. This project would never of happened without you.
Carbon Customs/Anvil, Ridetech,Optima, Hendrick Motorsports, Tremec, Flowmaster, BFG, Rock Valley, Tilton, Detroit Speed, American Autowire, Baer, Jegs, Autometer, RingBrothers, VintageAir, Auto City Classic, 2GoKeyless, HurstDriveline, QuickTime, CenterForce, Dynamat, StrangeEngineering, Ididit, Sparco, Forgeline, YearOne, BeCool, Kirkham Motorsports, American Hot Rods, Ben Hermance Design.....

In the end we've got the best parts available, but without a doubt the relationships we've obtained while building this beast are where the true value lies. I can't thank everyone enough.

Now let's rip the tires off this mother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I noticed that you didn't mention Demented Custom's when Thanking all you're sponsors. What happened with Jamie, I'm guessing he F*_ked up you're car also?

Hey Bill I also have a 70 Trans Am and I want to install a Tiger Cage and Sparco seats. Couple questions..... Did the tiger cage fit in the car without any modifications? Also, what mounting brackets did you use for the Sparco seats, were they custom fabricated or did an off the shelf bracket work?

Bill Howell
10-26-2014, 12:06 PM
Actually, I can't answer either question. I am sure Bret or some of the guys at Ridetech can clear up the Tiger Cage question, though I feel sure they have a direct fit for a 2nd gen f-body. On the seats, someone with a 2nd gen will have to answer. I helped gather the parts for this build a couple years (maybe 3 now) but did not do the work.
