Dave, I've been pondering the swap to a 4-speed lately; there are a ton on Ebay, I tend to find the most with a search of "Nascar" in the "racing parts" category.

Good luck on the hunt.

Hey Jon.. that 3rd pedal really makes things fun.. and interesting. LOL Yeah I have my ebay searches on auto... been contemplating one of those... they consistently ask for about $1800 for a used T101a on there from what I've seen... but I keep finding posts on other forums in the past year or 2 where guys found one for $1000 to 1200... I want to find one of those! :)

And the gear ratio range dramatically. Anywhere from a near 3.0 first to a 1.80 first. Looking for a 2.3 to 2.5 first I think.

I've been having such a tough time with these old ratchety crooked Muncie linkage rods, that the heim rods on these trannies and a Long shifter are very appealing. Plus I've been told by guys with them that they are streetable if you put a street type performance clutch in it.

We shall see... thanks

Ron has one in his $5000 budget mustang. You really only need the clutch to start off, according to him, they shift better without the clutch once you are rolling. PM Ron, he got his about an hour from me. The guy has quite a few with a number of gear choices. He researched a while and would have some good info for you.

Thanks Payton. I have been in contact with Ron and he has taught me a bit about these, but his trans has a 2.87 first gear, too deep for me, and the same reason he is looking for a 2.6-ish first. I will have to ask him about his source.

Dave, what if you ran the 2.87 first gear, coupled with a 3.08 rear gear; or even the 3.xx first. You would still have a nice final ratio in first, and still be able to run the highways?

Yeah that's pretty much what the Richmond 5 speed people do. My issue is not necessarily highway rpm, but more the gear splits for road racing, which has become my preferred venue with this car. But trying to find a nice balance of 1st gear. The problem with the 2.87 first is the massive drop to 2nd gear, which is bad for any autoX for me and my motor powerband. My Muncie 2.20 first is not that bad, but I'm sick of the old ****ty linkage and instead of spending a fair amount of money bandaiding with a nice shifter and heim rods, I figure spend a little more and and get one that can take some serious abuse. I'm not 100% on this plan, but leaning pretty heavily at this point.

Plus I think I just love the look of these things I gotta admit. And it's different.

I was going to ask you what you wanted for your Muncie, untill I saw that 2.2 first gear. Wowza!

On a side note, what do you want for your Muncie? lol

What is your rear gear ratio now Jon? I have 3.55s and it's actually a pretty decent all around setup so far. It's a very good road course setup. And I got lucky being able to do RTTC autoX all in 1st gear where everyone else was in 2nd. I did have to raise rev limiter to 7400 of course. LOL

Let me see about the M21 I have.. I will give you first dibs at it when/if I sell. You not going to Big Willow this Sat I take it?

I've got 3.08s in the car right now, it would be pretty brutal with that 2.2 though. Do let me know when are ready to get rid of it.

I'm not going to make it out to WS this weekend, really wanted to atleast make it out to spectate, but the timing isn't the greatest.

Yeah a 3.08 and the M21 is a tough first gear combo for sure. I will let you know when/if I find a new 4 speed I am ready to pull the trigger on.
