View Full Version : How to increase "feel" on power steering?

I finally have my '70 Chevelle on the road. It has stock power steering setup, with suspension mods and an aftermarket (13" diameter) steering wheel. The steering "feel" is way too light for my tastes. Is there a way (changing pulleys/etc.?) to firm up the feel so it's not so light?

You can change the bypass valve to a higher rate. Most of the aftermarket boxes are using a 35 lb valve..... the stock is no where near that. But, the pully change will not effect the feel of the steering itself..... unless you underdrive it so much that it induces chatter at lower speeds..... like parking lots and then you will hate it.

you can also put a larger torsion rod in the box, it is what tells the box that it needs power assistance when it flexes.
