I have mounted the LS engine in my Studebaker, the oil pan is essentially flush with the bottom of the front crossmember, as well as the frame rails. I'm at 4 7/8 ground clearance. I've got 3/8 spacers under my pedestal motor mounts, and would like to remove them. That would put me at 4 1/2 ground clearance, and the pan would definitely be the lowest item on the car. Would this invite disaster like I think it would, or are many of you running your aluminum pan that low?
Any of you running a skid plate to protect the aluminum pan?

I would think about getting a new pan... $400 from holley, Mast (my choice), autokraft, etc. can save you from a world of hurt.
