How do you do it? Everyone says hammer it out with a punch, but that sh!+ doesn't budge. Sprayed it with penetrant, let it soak, sprayed it again, hammered some more, still doesn't even move. I hit it hard too. Then I missed the punch and smashed my finger and nearly popped it like a grape.https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I just want to remove the whole column so I can work on the floor and firewall.

Any suggestions?

I just drilled one out of a '70 duster. Had the same problem. Sprayed, hammered, sprayed, hammered, nothing. I ended out using a carbide drill bit.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I did finally get it out. I bought a set of longer punches from China Freight so I could get more power with the hammer. Came right out! Used a pry bar to slip it off the steering gear.

Most tool companies like SnapOn have special punches just for use on roll pins. The end of the punch is ground just to fit the end of the pin and center it's self. Worth every penny. Pins come out much easier with them. No smashed fingers.
